Hi, sorry for the request on the first post but I picked up some old standing speakers from the garage and not sure how / if possible to connect to a standard TV?

They are definitely a few years old, so I suspect I might need to buy a new adapter/converter?

I have attached below.

Thanks in advance

From speakers, there are two of these;

A TV doesn't have the power to drive loudspeakers directly. It needs something to provide that power. That's the amplifier that @hornetstinger is referring to.

Look up "stereo amplifier". Look up " AV receiver".

Your TV audio output will be on a digital connection called optical (Google it). This is light pulses. Either the amp needs an optical input (AV receivers have this, some of the more recent stereo amps too) or you need a further adaptor box to convert light in to an electrical signal.

Before getting in to any that though you need to to look at the Ohms rating on those speakers. If you're looking at 6 or 8 Ohms then happy days. Anything lower than 6 though needs more planning. If you're at 3 Ohms or less then don't waste your time with them unless you have the main unit that they were originally partnered with.

Where the speakers are 6 Ohm or higher, and you're prepared to buy a suitable amp - remembering too that there's a good chance you'll need to keep two remote controls handy; one for the TV and one for the amp volume - then you can make these speakers work simply by cutting off those plugs and getting to the bare wire connections.

If none of this sounds feasible, buy a sound bar; one with HDMI ARC and Optical and the ability to learn the TV controllers Vol+ Vol- IR codes. Richersounds have (or had) a sound bar at £99 thar covers all these bases.
