Which airbrush/compressor for use with models?

thanks for the post!

I've just been having a look. Interestingly I can get the H&S Solo kit (with compressor and fittings) for £170 which sounds quite reasonable? The dual action is only £20 or so more, with free shipping. Bearing in mind I will be doing only military models, maybe the 2-1 is what I need? I've had a look at machine mart and the badger airbrushes and they actually work out as expensive, if not more so, and there is more faffing involved, and getting it all from different places (in my opinion as a novice of course!). The last thing I want to do is 'faff'. It's hard enough building the model.. hehe

If you've made your mind up on double action, give the chaps at

http://www.everythingairbrush.com

a call.... They'll advise you on all you need, with fittings and airbrush etc.... Not the cheapest of places, but I've dealt with them before and they provide excellent advise to newbie’s like yourself...

Will agree, if you intend on building a lot of military models, double action might well be worth the investment... You'll just need to do a little more practice to get the hang of using it.... You’ll make a lot of mistakes at first, just stick with it.. It won't come to you all at once, the more you use it, the more you'll get proficient with it.

Thanks again mate. That's one of the sites I have been looking at. They have a wealth of accessories and things. Makes it quite difficult. I think a 'kit' would work out more economical in the long run plus it has everything I need to get started, it's just 'which' kit. Maybe a call is a good idea!

A H&S 2in1 with an adjustable compressor with a tank is a perfect set-up. Think of it as an investment. If you treat it well it will last you for years with no problem. The sites named above are excellent, EverythingAirbrush will happily chat to you and point out bits and bobs you might not have thought about. I got my set-up from them.

Phil Flory from Pro-Modeller (he's a professional modeller who does commissions for collectors and museums etc) uses the set-up above. His site is great with loads of downloadable vids and a very helpful forum. It does cost £2.99 a month though, but I think it's well worth it. Well worth a visit as is Britmodeller.com.

Well that's that. :D

Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Two In One 1
Mini Piston type "0n-demand" compressor with receiver for Airbrushing
Createx Airbrush Cleaner - 16 oz - 480ml
Airbrush Quick Release Mini Coupling Body - 1/8" BSP
Highly Flexible 1.8 meter Rubber Braided Air Hose

He gave me the hose for free, and I bought a few other bits as well. He advised me the Evolution would be a far better airbrush than the solo for my needs. He was a nice chap and I feel confident he has given me some good advice there. I just need to source some thinners and things now.

I have a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution Two In One, Its a lovely tool. I'd recommend it.

For a compressor, I have a ripmax one, which has a small tank which help stop pulseing. Its basically this with an added tank

I get most my bits from everythingairbrush

They were very helpful so I don't mind paying a little extra for good service. They also said I can call them up if I have any problems. They advised on the tank option for the compressor to stop the pulsing as well, as that is important with small models apparently. I'm sure I will have fun! I have a Mk1 Spit to build and paint in due course.

I got this one form them when I was starting out and managed to get a large compressor off of ebay then brought a moisture trap for it.

It is a copy of a Iwata airbrush but has had startling reviews in many many model magazines and on line forums etc.
Great to start out with.

I use it for models as well. Great brush. Does what I need it to from very fine work to larger spray patterns etc.

Hope this helps a bit.
