Hi

I wouls like an alarm system for my house I am renovating. It can be quite simple and I need to try and keep cost down.

I noticed other threads reccomended galaxaxy/flex although another said flex were not sorted yet although that was in December so may be ok now? why flex over the normal galaxy? cost?

I dont mind what make but the galaxy seems to have an android app you can get messages from and look at logs remotly etc which seems useful? Does this negate the need for a voice dialer? what do I need to do this?

Would it be useful for me to post a house layout so someone could suggest what sensors to get?

lastly I noticed the flex has 2 door controls. what is this exactly and is it useful for domestic applications? My wife is worried about back doors always being locked in case some one comes in.

thx

Alarm panels from the top manufacturers are much the same in terms of reliability, so pick the feature set you like the most. If you don't like the interface then you'll stop setting it, and that's a few hundred quid wasted.

Looking at logs? If there is a problem that requires your attention then the bell will go off and a dialler will send you an SMS :)

Door controls appear to be the interface that reads your keyfobs, I'd assume so you can either walk in through the front door, or in via the garage access door.
Not sure what you mean by locked back doors?

Always get dualtech sensors, but since they are a common point of failure then you don't want a house full of them.

I was assuming the keypad would be fob operated anyway. I need it to be very easy to use day to day once programmed.

I presumed door control was like my work where an elcetro magnet locks door and you need to swipe to get in? may be its not though? just saw flex said it had it.

is the galaxy or flex worth getting? I have no experience of any panels.

my dad has a scantronics he likes but I thought the app for the galaxy looked interesting. gimik?

Any advise appreciated.

I think any keyfob system can trigger a door lock.

I used to work at scantronics back when it first started in London, so maybe biased but their top end kit looked nice. I still see their Dom/Ind kit working in houses 25 years after it was designed (and the design was better than everything out there at the time).
I suspect installers never rip out scan kit, they just take over the contract.

Galaxy is fine, I've not used the panel myself but I know the name and seen it recommended on Security forums.

The app is a gimmick IMO, an alarm is part of the building fabric that should never need looking at again other than to change the battery. A lot of the top panels have ways of dumping the log to serial anyway.
