Which brand, which processor to choose for a new build?

Panyan so if the difference in price is £120 in the two builds and say my budget for a graphics card was an additional £200 would it be more wise to select the AMD build and put the extra £120 pounds towards a better graphics crad, ie: would i get better returns for my money gaming wise having approx a £300 pounds graphics crad and an AMD build, or better returns using I5 and a £200 graphics card?

Subbtna I love the look of that package and at least I dont have to worry about any overclocking.

it would depend on the amount of gaming you do

i went for I5 with cheaper graphics card becuase i dont game that much

if i gamed a lot, i would have gone for the amd build with the more expensive graphics card

No point doing an AMD build right now, unless you are on a seriously tight budget. If you want AMD wait a little longer and see what bulldozer is like.

ATI don't exist anymore, it's only AMD.

The guy was talking crap.
Nvidia and AMD are pretty much at each others throats GPU wise, Nvidia have the best single card solutions, but they're at a premium.

Intel are much better CPU's than AMD at the moment, however that may/may not change when Bulldozer launches if 57-87 days time.

Nicely summed up

This benchmarking with a 580 and several cpus seems to suggest, for gaming at least, and I know its only 3 games, however Metro 2033 is about as stiff a test as you will get, that when a variety of cpus are used, 2 or 4core, the differences in min\max fps is very little. I'm still trying to get my head round these scores as I was about to upgrade to SB 2500K and frankly if these benchmarks are correct, I dont see the point and I'd be better improving the graphics. I dont know what the OP is currently gaming on but if, like me he mostly just games on his Pc maybe his current cpu is good enough and he'd be better spending on upgrading graphics\memory\ssd.:)

I just read those benchmarks and for Metro 2033 at least they suggest its better to spend the money on a better graphics card as the processor is not really having much affect on the game. I guess I might stick with AMD after all, but rolypolyman do you have any more benchmarks for other games?
