howdy. after some advice here.

my laptop is low spec, p3 500 with 256mb RAM. It runs WinXP SP2 quite happily, and for what it is - its a nippy little laptop. i've been using IE6 on it for a while, and know it's about time i updated it.

thing is, on my main PC i run firefox, and i've noticed it's quite memory hungry.

so what im wondering, which current generation of browsers use the least amount of resources.

opera now installed :)

how do i get rid of the 'frame' round the browser window - specifically the one down the left hand side?

edit; gone, panels!

can i ditch the file, edit, view etc menus too? hmmm.

i was forced to use a celeron laptop with 256mb at work for 2 weeks, i had IE7, opera, firefox & maxthon installed

firefox was by far the fastest, opera seemed jumpy and very buggy in gmail

Firefox 3 beta 5?

Try it out and see if you like it better than Opera. It should be loads faster rendering javascript and it's much lighter on memory than Ff2. There are further memory tweaks you can make in about:config as well; disabling whole page caching and such.
