I recently made the full switch to Firefox. I tried the IE8 Beta and hated it! After a week of Firefox usage, I'm loving this :)

3) Chrome - backup browser, speed show off :p. ( bloody middle mouse button doesn't make the screen scroll like in ff3 and ie7, would use chrome as primary browser if they fixed this and had a decent mouse gestures plugin like ie7pro)

You mean click down on mouse wheel so it scrolls? If so it is in one of the newest dev releases.

I use Chrome.

annoyingly i HAVE to use chrome, as FF causes my computer to randomly Freze and i haven't gotten to the cause yet (no time 3rd year of uni) and i hate IE

i looked at google chrome but.... t&c contains this

16.1 Some of the Services are supported by advertising revenue and may display advertisements and promotions. These advertisements may be targeted to the content of information stored on the Services, queries made through the Services or other information.

16.2 The manner, mode and extent of advertising by Google on the Services are subject to change without specific notice to you.

16.3 In consideration for Google granting you access to and use of the Services, you agree that Google may place such advertising on the Services.

The only people that think it isn't cool to use Internet Explorer are the people that think it's the most unsecure browser that has ever seen the light of day which is complete rubbish. Unfortunately, there will always be people that will think this.

i think most people around these parts use other browsers not because of security concerns but simply from the extra functionality they get.

Because IE6 was supposedly insecure (I never had any problems) compared to Firefox people are still convinced it's insecure two versions later.

Same goes for Vista, just because it had a few problems to begin with people are still convinced it's a crap operating system even though they haven't given it another chance with the latest updates and drivers.

I'm well aware that IE7/8 are both probably more secure over Firefox as they use protected mode, but I prefer the functionality I get from all Firefox's add-ons and the amount of tweaks that can be applied to it.

Safari 4 beta with WebKit. Best and fastest browser you can get! IMO of course.

When I'm on my Vista partition i use IE 8 beta. Very fast!

What's so worrying about that? So Google might, in the future, put a different kind or amount of advertising on some of its services. Surely you could just stop using it if that became the case and you didn't like it?

IE6 by default allowed programs to install willy nilly, firefox's activex controls basically make it impossible for a program to install itself, or at least that used to be the case, correct me if I'm wrong.

For example, if you visited a site with IE6 it was possbile for a program to install itself without you even clicking anything, wheras with firefox this could not happen without user intervention.

IE 7 took an approach similar to firefox and whenever anything tried to install itself it would activate UAC, but many people disable UAC because it's a pain in the ass making it completely redundant in those cases.

I'm not sure with IE8 though.

Personally the fastest browser I have used (obviously it's subjective) is IE7 x64, it just always seems realyl fast to me, however plug-in support seems to be terrible so I never bothered (I can't even get flash to install).

The security argument's worthless because there's no way to quantify how secure IE is compared to Firefox, or Chrome to Safari, so long as browser makers aren't 100% honest in the vulnerabilities found and fixed. Most of the security argument thrown around is biased FUD.

Firefox doesn't, and never has done, ActiveX. Indeed, no browser other than IE does ActiveX.

People seem to assume that anyone who dares use Firefox instead of another browser do so for security! Fact is I use it as there's tons of addons you can get for it which make browsing far more pleasurably and easier than any other browser out there. I don't care if my addons make it render a page 0.5s slow than IE/Opera/Safari etc. Frankly I'll take that damn near impossible to see slow down!

Opera.
IE8 occasionally for sites that don't render properly.
Firefox is terrible these days. Give firebird back :(
