Ok so my partner wants me to build her a new PC based on mITX, I have come up with 2 builds but would appreciate feedback on which one will meet her needs best.

Build 1:
Zotac GeForce 9300-ITX WiFi Mini-ITX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

In-Win BM639 Mini-ITX Case - Black (120W PSU)

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.20GHz (800FSB) - Retail

OcUK 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel

Fujitsu 160GB 5400RPM SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (MJA2160BH)

Samsung SN-S082H/BEBN 8x DVD±RW IDE Slimline Drive (Black) - OEM

Build 2:
Same as above but using this motherboard with the build in dual core atom .

Why are you building an Atom computer to play WoW?

The GPU will be fine as I can run WoW on my MacBook with a 64MB Intel 950. Not sure the CPU will cut the mustard though even the dual core as the Atom is designed for NetBooks and somewhat crippled.

You need serious cpu power for wow, especially if you run a bunch of add ons.

Atoms are very very slow so thats a no go.

On the zotac does that mobo support overclocking? Even if it does the psu isnt going to so thats a no go.

And the onboard 9300 is gash.

So yeah neither are any good really.

My E6850 @ 3.6GHz and GTX 275 used to have problems running WoW at full graphics since the WotLK expansion, especially when raiding. They really increased the look of the game, and with it, the needs to play it. It used to run fine in TBC, but not anymore.

You would really need a good quad core and some good graphics to run it.

I'm really pretty surprised you say this. I don't think WoW takes advantage of multiple cores right? So why would a quad core be better for WoW? :)

That aside, it is a real cpu hog yes, and an Atom processor is a no go. I've had a E2160 @ 3.2 Ghz running it just fine. But as madindehead pointed out, with the latest WotLK expansion I dunno how it will cope.

Imo, it's best to, depending on your budget get an intel core 2 duo and clock that around 3.2Ghz or more...

I'm building a rig for my girlfriend to play WoW, I've ordered a E5200 off the bay and gonna clock that to at least 3Ghz. Not sure on the motherboard yet but probably a second hand P35 board.

And seriously, you don't want to play WoW on a 1680x1050 or higher res with a 9300 :)
