Hi all

Right now i have the Canon 300D with the kit lens i think its the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6

and i also have the Canon 50mm f2.5 (nifty fifty)

i dont have any particular photography that i do just all.

so what would benifit me the best without talking thousands which i can not afford.

thanks :)

I had the same set up as you when i bought my 70-200L.

Best money i have spent was that - and is still may favourite lens i own.

Do you want to replace the kit lens - is it not meeting your requirements?
Or
Do you want a longer focal length lens - i.e. 70-200?

The nifty fifty is a 1.8 not 2.5. It's a great lens :) The newer more expensive version is the 1.4.

I'd suggest a macro lens. You'd have 3 different types of lens then as the kit lens, while not being that good CAN take some nice landscapes.

Either that, or save for a zoom lens in the future. The 70-200 F4L is good value for money.

Depends on your budget but I just love my 70-300 USM IS. @ F7.1 and higher its sharp as :D

Still want MORE reach, next stop is 100-400 :D

But really depends on what you want to do.

I want a 150mm Macro soonish but need moneh!

Right, here's my input, i've chosen a lens for each type of photography in which i believe to be the best at about £300, if you have more then forget my choices. I've not included a prime in my choice as they are too specialised and it's hard to pick one out from another and £300 won't get you much apart from the 50mm which you have and the 50mm F/1.4

Tele-Zoom lens
Canon 70-200 F/4L is your best bang for bucks at about £300 these days, you can NOT buy a better lens, different lens maybe but not better in it's price range.
On the other end of the scale, you could go for a...

Superwide angle
Sigma 10-20 F4-5.6, again, about £300 or just under, a decent lens, but beware sigmas quality control, go and try the lend before you buy it to make sure you get a sharp copy.

Macro lens
Either the Tamron 90mm (£279ish) or the Sigma 105mm (just over £300ish). Both very good macro lenses and both have great reviews, not much to choose between them except the price so the Tamron wins for me.

Other options for replacing the kit lens (although I would keep it at the moment and get a different length) are:

Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4.5
Sigma 24-70 f/2.8

Both around the £200 mark. :)

or a slightly more expensive alternative to kit lens (although i'd also keep the kit lens for now and get a different lens) is the Canon 17-40F/4 L

What ever you buy make sure the wide end is at least 17 mm. I have the 24 = 85 mm Canon lens on my 400D and the 24 mm end is not wide enough as I found out on my trip to the Lake District this week.
I am thinking of buying the 17 - 40mm L lens. I did come across a chap with the 17 - 85 mm IS lens that he said performed very well. Many reviews do not rate this lens and the "feel" is not as good as the L lens. On the other hand it does give you lots of reach and IS.
