Which Car is Better for a Trip to Cardiff?

Easy enough to switch from car to car - after 5 minutes there's not much to it.

Watch out for cameras on the M4 around newport and cardiff - SPECS - stick to 50 mph.

Other than that, it's an easy drive really. From Oxford you've got 2 options, either back to the M4 or go cross country to the M50 and then down the A449 onto the M4. A34 back to the M4 is probably easier though.

We have a TomTom which has the latest maps and speed cameras so that should "help" ;)

We are taking the M4 as that is the easiest route :)

I drove the Mercedes on the way back... it was fine actually :)

The main difference was that the accelerator was heavier and therefore has to be pushed far harder than the Toyota. However the car did take off when you put your foot down, but my Dad stopped me going more than 85mph :(

I've done over 6 hours of motorway in the Alfa non-stop, not even stopping for petrol, and In traffic a lot of the way. This in a car which is doing over 3500RPM at 70, and starts to get noisy past 2500RPM.

I really wouldn't think twice about doing these three short journeys back to back in a Merc.

I drove back from Wales, which took about 5 hours, in my MX5, which does 4000rpm at 70 and starts to get noisy from about 0 ;)

I do a 5 hour journey in a Vauxhall Astra (though it is quite comfy) nothing to it. Done more than that in one go in an old mk3, 6 hours driving is nothing really.

I didn't realise there was SPECS there, I thought it was just signs to do 50?

I've driven through there faster than that with no ill effects? Is that recent?

Specs have been up since about sept/oct. Not sure if they're still there but they were until the 11th October (not in the UK atm).

SPECS were clearly visible, but whoever decided to enforce a 50mph speed limit is retarded. I think that was the most deserted motorway I have ever seen in my life and crawling along at 50mph was painstakingly boring

There has been a lot of roadworks going on there, I guess it's easier just to keep it at a constant 50 throughout the whole stretch to prevent congestion at rush hour.

I've not driven there for a while, so not sure if they still have work to do.
