Which car would you chose?

Some stats on reliability from warrantydirect.
I always like looking at stats, but then always start questioning them. I think that all those figures show is that Impreza drivers cane their cars.

Perhaps an extended warrenty package would be usefull for Fox because of this. But thats yet another 'running cost' to add to the many for the Impreza as it is.

Skyline, also mid 90's but could you get an r34 for under 10k these days? in my eyes much prettier than the subaru, probably faster in a straight line and enough technical gadgetry for you to really get your geek on.. :)

The only Skyline that would be faster than a Scoob would be a GTR, and he'll only get an R32 GTR in that budget.

An R34 in that budget would be a GTT with an Autobox. That's no where near the scoob's performance.

Standard GTS/GTT Skylines aren't massively quick.

I'm not even remotely concerned about depreciation.

Got to be the scoob then :D

If you don't mind horrific depreciation!! ;)

Just as an aside - I think the reliability index might not tell the full story - it quotes Impreza 93on but 93 Imprezas would all be imports and asking a 13 year old car to run on 95 fuel and then ask it to go faster than 112mph for the first time in 13 years without really paying attention to anything else is really asking for trouble.

Didn't they win the JD power survery a few years in a row some years back? I have also read that these reliability studies go on the cost of warranty repairs. If this is true then its not surprising Imprezas will score low due to the issues with 97/98 cars suffering piston slap (ovaling of the bores IIRC). Versions before or after don't have this problem - nor do 97/98 cars that have had a short motor change.

Last word on scoobs - I would be cautious about P1 ownership becuase over the last couple of years it would appear Prodrive didn't pay enough attention to the ECU mapping and its still set for JDM fuel (it is an STI5 R afterall with the good bits taken off!)

IMHO, stick to a UK car which is more or less standard. Imports might have more goodies but its only worth buying an import if you could not get that model over here (Type R, STI etc etc) What I would do is look round for the best looking RB5 you can find - preferable the WR model (PPP, quite tasteful and very rare spoiler, Alcon brakes that wiegh naff all and other goodies)

Since the much missed Richard Burns died, I firmly believe these cars will go up in value and untouched examples on low miles will hold their value well. IIRC there was an RB5 on scoobynet not so long ago and it had ONLY done 14K miles!

I'll shut up now :)
