Which card to upgrade?

Hi all,
I have an older pc with AMD AMD Ryzen 9 3900, 16gb ram and a THERMALTAKE SMART RGB 600W 80+ GAMING PSU.
Now clearly a bit dated. Currently running an old radeon gfx card which can manage doom eternal but not brilliantly.
What sort of graphics card would folks recommend I upgrade to? With the pc age it's probably pointless to get something too beefy but I'd like something that runs quietly and a bit more smoothly. I currently play 1080p.
Thanks

Which card exactly?

3900 is still a decent CPU for any current game, it is really not that old :D

Factor in a possible power supply upgrade too depending on what card you end up buying, those Thermaltake Smarts aren't great quality units and with only 600w available, more power hungry cards will stress it a bit more than I'd be comfortable with.
I'd really rather not, and would prefer a less hungry card to one that's going to require a new PSU. I don't game that much, just occasionally and don't want the faff of replacing a PSU.

Rx 6600/6600xt /7600xt or for £300 the 6750xt would be a massive upgrade and will also give you the option to play at 1440p.

Quiet is relative to the limits of the card and cooler size so if your not stressing the GPU to much it shouldn't be as loud.

Check comparison against your Rx 580

Gpu hierarchy thread.
I would go with rx 6700 12 gb.

Then the 6750xt should be you first choice and can be had for £280.

12gb of vram
On ebay? I'm a bit reluctant to buy a GPU off ebay lest it doesn't work. Happy to look at CEX or anywhere else that does guarantees. On CEX I can see them for £300 and 6700s for around £250 which is more acceptable price wise.

You can buy a 6750xt new with full warranty, I can't tell you where as it's against the forum rules but it's not hard to find .

how much is rx6800 ? you won't get it for 300 second hand ?
New £360, second hand shouldn't even be considered at that price.

Probably around £250 or so. I was looking at a used card off CEX - they have several 3060ti options from around £220-£280. I think the minimum PSU is 600w so might be just on the line...

Any thoughts?
If you really want to avoid the chance of needing a PSU upgrade, you can get a 4060 8GB for £250 (new) or a RX 6600 for less than £200 (also new), both are decent upgrades on a RX 580 and use around 130 watts.

There are loads of things I'd rather not do either so I get that. However, the power supply is the beating heart of your system so it's at your own risk if something goes wrong with any new card you get, you could take the chance and be fine. But 600w and on the low quality side and it would be remiss not to point that out when people are talking about spending money on new components.

Carefully weigh up the power consumption of any new card you're considering and try to get something that isn't so power hungry.

With a power supply, if you buy quality from the off, it'll have a 10 year warranty and you can use it in your next 2 or 3 systems.

Looks like the 6750xt requires a 650w PSU minimum which puts it out of the game. Same for the 6700.

Looks like the 4060 is slightly better so will probably go for that.
