Hi all , just about to purchase new graphics card , but I dont know which works out as the best value for money. Here are my choices.
Radeon 1950 GT
Nvidia 8600 GT
Radeon 1650 GT

Obviously I would prefer the DX10 card but how well do the 8600`s compare to the Radeon cards ?

All assistance gratefully recieved my friends

get 2 2600xt's for about £160 . it'll beat them 3 easy. plus its directx 10

if u want one card thats directx 10 u should get 8600 or 2600xt

Well, i wouldnt worry about DX10 just yet, the 8600GT wont be good enough for running newer titles in DX10.

The 1950GT beats the 8600GT in most cases at DX9 which is fine, but whats your budget?

Also what sort of games do you plan on playing?

Hi I play a lot of Stalker at the mo also Supreme Commander and Oblivion.
My budget is around 125 quid. ;)

You can get an x1950pro for just over half that which will run most games pretty well. Alternatively save a little more and get an 8800GTS/x2900xt.

What res will you be playing at?

What PSU do you have?

You keep saying this but neglect to see if their motherboard, PSU or their budget are up to the job.

Sorry for all the questions but it allows us to give you the best advice.

So yeh, what resolution do you play at? And whats the rest of your system like?

An 8600GT would be a nice choice as it does overclock like crazy :) it kinda future proofs ya but again dont expect miricles once direct x 10 comes along. Its not too expensive and OCUK are selling it. No extra power required also :) @ £70.

x1950pro is indeed faster than it however but is only direct x 9 and requires extra power. If direct x 10 wont bother you much the this would be the way to go @ £76

Just get an x1950 pro then if you're only gaming at 1024, faster than an 8600GT or other similarly priced cards (seen x1950pros going for <£65).

Thanks for your help guys Its all taken on board.I may just have to go for the 8600 and clock it to death for six or seven months :D .Then replace later .
Cheers.

Really dont see the point, the x1950xt will out do it by a long stretch in all dx9 games (dx10 games are few and far between) but each to their own i guess..

The first real DX10 title will be Bioshock, they say a 8600GT will run it really good on the FAQ's on the Bioshock page.

I already have one 8600GT and it runs great, everything on Max in BF2 and I'm getting another for SLI this week as I run in high res! :)

Ha, what a fag, its only because they're 1st Gen DX10 cards and that crap is emulated anyway!

I'm running 2 x 8600GT's in SLI and it can play all my games, **** Crysis and all that S***! :o

Thought you already had 2, 8600Gts?

If your going to say something at least tell the truth.

To the OP personally you would be better of with a x1950 Pro great card for the price. Dont worry to much about Direct X 10 just yet. :)
