Hi all,

I'm looking to build a new PC, which will include:

- ASUS P5E3 DELUXE mobo
- Q6600 CPU
- Tuniq Tower 120
- ATi 3870X2

Now, i was going to go for the CoolerMaster Cosmos 1000 case, but I've seen that it isn't too efficient at removing the heat. Then I looked at the Thermaltake VG4000SWA case, but that's HUGE. Then I saw peeps here suggesting the Antec P182.

HELP!

Basically, I want a cool, quiet case - size isn't THAT much of an issue. I currently have a Stacker, which has about 7 fans on, and it's LOUD. I'd just like a decent case that's as quiet as possible, and not too hot. It'll be mainly used for gaming etc., although I'm not really into overclocking.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

the antec p182 should suit you fine it has 3 fans which all have controllers so low for general use then turn them up for gaming the game volume makes the noise from the fans on full unnoticeable it is also capable of fitting the tuniq tower in there no problem and will of course fit both cards in there. it is a nice case to work with and has excellent cable management

Yup.

I put 4 Yate Loons in mine with 7volt mods on, cant hear a thing (apart from my stupid 8800GT on startup. sounds like a chav in a nova.)

Antec 1200 might be what you're lookin for...

Keep the stacker, replace the fans, nice and cheap, and you still get to keep a fairly decent case ;)

I used to have a P182 and it was a tight squeeze (imo) even with my little 7600 GS's. With my new rig (Q6600, Maximus Formula, 3870X2) I decided to try a 'pre-water-cooled' case and got the Thermaltake Kandalg LCS. Was a total No Swearing! or bust choice but I just went for it. I can say, it's a great case, so easy to set up (first time water cooling) and has loads of space and looks funky. The clips for retains your graphics cards in are useless, that's a bad point. My heavy X2 simply messed them up so I removed them and used conventional screws. I went for silver rather than black, as I heard finger prints are a pain to remove from the black versions. All in all, a nice case, great for an introduction to water cooling, looks funky, very quiet (suprised me) and I would recommend them. Could never go back to a P182 after using this.

Right, I still need some help - I keep going between the Cosmos and the P182!

Bad points of the P182:

- Smaller
- 9800 GX2 would need the top HD rack taken out
- Lower Hard drives would get hot

Bad points of the Cosmos:

- No fan controller can be installed
- Temps?

Can anyone advise a bit further on these? I'd quite like the fan controllers to be installed, but I've read this can't be done on the cosmos, as the door is fairly flush....

Just how much quieter are the Noctua fans? Worth replacing the standard fans that came with the Lexa Blackline?

Running at full they are still quieter than the ones the my P182 came with. If you use the supplied cables to quieten them (they come with extra cables with resistors on, essentially volt modding them) they are basically silent. I run 4 noctuas on my case through a fan controller and the computer is basically silent.

The lower hard drives in the P182 don't get hot if you have the fan in the lower compartment running. I have 2 in there and they run fine :).
