Which case?

Hi Guys, sorry for the questions :-(, I just want to avoid build problems.
Yemen, you're not nit-picking, it's me asking silly questions

Well it seems I can choose either of the cases without problems, which is good.

How does the air get out of the PC7+ case if both fans are letting air in?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend having both the 120mm fans blowing in air as you are very likely to cause a vacuum, but there is a space for an 80mm fan at the top of the case.

You can see for yourself:

The inside of the case for you (ignore the lack of rounded IDE cables, it's very much a work in progess :p):

I'll go see if my flatmate's in and I'll try and get a photo for you. :)

Hi Nix,

Good idea. I assume there's no problem with installing the 80mm fan. What are the details so I can look it up in OcUK?

Cheers.

I have an 80mm Akasa Amber fan. Just make sure that when you install the fan, have it blowing air out as heat rises.

Third fan from the top

When I said both intakes I intended it to be taken in the context of the v1000+.

The PC7+II is nice and simple, front in rear out, blowhole out if you want to use it.

Sorry for the confusion. :)

To give you an idea, the Eclipse fanboy WJA96 has a modded v1000b+ as his main PC case if I remember correctly

Technically you are correct - but it's actually a Koolance PC3-725 water cooled system so the cooling is all done by the RADs in the case roof. It just happens to be housed in a very sexy black V1000B+.

For air cooling I'm still pushing the Eclipse as the preferred choice. The V1x00 series are the best looking cases on the market in my opinion. I'm about to get a V600B though as I need a smaller case for a desktop system and I'm just smitten.

And I'll take the 'Fanboy' tag from you Mr. Yewen - but anyone else and we're talking about a one sided conversation with the blunt side of a Birmingham screwdriver. ;)

Yeh it is in essence still a Lian Li with a massive Rad in the roof.

You going silver for that v600 then? You know the B was a typo.

Silver? No - although the black anodised finish on the Lian Li's isn't a patch on the Eclipse. And every piece of kit I have in the building is black (it makes tuning the TV very hard - press a black button on a black background with a black label and a black light lights up black to let you know it's active.)

ps.I know I was paraphrasing Douglas Adams!

Are the coloured Akasa Amber fans (Akasa AK174CB-4BLB 120mm Blue LED Fan (FG-008-AK) ) as quiet as the regular fans (Akasa AK-183-L2B Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3 pin (FG-024-AK) ) ?

I can't see info about dB levels for the coloured ones and they don't use the term "ultra quite".

Ignore decibal levels, as unless every fan has them taken under the same conditions they are a load of rubbish, whats to say the reading of a fan is not from 1m away.

Technically Delta could claim there fans were noiseless, if they took the readings from the other side of a concrete fallout shelter, you get the idea. :p

But no, they are not as good as the normal Amber fans noise wise.

Hi Yewen,

I'm still torn betwen the PC7+ and V1000+, can you *finally* confirm that *if* I went for the V1000+ (with 2 new Akasa fans) then all the components will fit together without having any problems, as per my build spec.

I would like to order the parts asap but hesitant until I'm comfortable with the details. I apologise for the numerous questions but I'm nervous (but really excited!!) about this first build. It's different if you've seen and done a build before but I haven't. I think you understand.

Thanks again your help and advice (from others too) - it has been brilliant!!

I've had an Akasa Blue-LED 80mm fan before and it was incredibley noisey compared to the 80mm amber I've got. They just don't compare.

This is my PC build spec as recommended in the HW forum, with the PC7+ case (but it does not list any software here, still got to add that):

It's not going to make a huge difference if you choose one case over the other to be honest with you. It would only start making huge, noticable changes if you had the latest generation in hardware as the cooling would definately show.

Personally, I'm not too sure about using Mushkin as your RAM, you may be better off getting some high-end Corsair or Geil with tight timings. :)

As for the Seagate harddrive, again this is personal preference, but I would get a Western Digital. Didn't Seagate just have a huge merger with another manufacturer?

More or less the same graphics card as me too, shame it's dropped so much in price so quickly. It was over double that around christmas time :(

You need to get yourself an 80mm fan too. :)
I'm assuming the £19.90 is for two 120mm fans?

Are you not getting yourself a keyboard or speakers?

EDIT:

Oh wait, I see you've got the mouse/keyboard combination.

I would stick with the mushkin if you cant stretch the budget further, the stock timings are 3-3-3-8 and corsairs kit for an extra £6 are the same.

If you can stretch to £140-145 on the ram then get the Mushkin 2GB DDR HP3200 High Performance Dual Channel Kit which has timings of 2-3-2-x
