Which Cisco IOS?

This is quite a specific issue with Cisco Routers.

I've tried using their 'software advisor' web page but the IOS's they recommended don't work with all the hardware installed (Specifically the HWIC-1ADSL-M). I want to update from my older version of Advanced Security to a newer one (Bug-related reason).

I would have thought newer IOS's worked with all available hardware for that model of router, but apparently not!

How the hell do I know which IOS to use? :(

the key, as alluded to in the previous post, is usually to get the technology version. Generally that works with just about anything, otherwise you need to faff about with the broadband feature sets and such to get some WICs working.

Well I tried the newest one (12.4.25b T) or something. The Cisco site said it would work... Did it? Christ no!

I ended up having to use 12.4.11XJ... Which is a tad old.

They are using...

Router: Cisco 1841 ISR
Module: HWIC-1ADSL-M
Module: HWIC-4ESW

I haven't had time to sit down and try each of the suggested IOS' on the software advisor, I just picked whatever the maintenance deployment was. Which didn't work. :D

Latest should be an ED version of 12.4.22, I'm running a few 1841's with ESW HWICs on 12.4.22 just fine...picking the MD rather than ED version might not be helping, I haven't bothered using the MD versions for years...
