Which codec pack?

For x264 you absolutely cannot beat CoreAVC pro with Media player classic, its the most efficient x264 codec there is.

Always good to see a legion of MPC + VLC users

Its truely the best kit and combo around, although I do throw in CoreAVC and realplayer/quicktime mini codecs/CCCP pack

My understanding about the K-Lite codec pack is that it install loads of codecs, including codecs you'll never use. That's why things like CCCP/VLC etc make sense as they load 'em with what you'll need. Anyone agree or disagree?

Just thinking, I use VLC. If I installed DivX, Xvid, AC3 and ffdshow is there a better media player out there? I like VLC but just wondering if say MPC is good enough to take over? It won't be for music, Winamp does that for me.

yes because playback software is that playback software.

It wont show you previews in the document explorer, it wont work with WMP or the media centre.

All I've ever needed is CCCP codec pack, never come across anything I've been unable to play both in vista and xp.

yup

until i used vista x64's media centre, i'd use ffdshow alone

now i use vista codec package, as it plays everything in media centre 64 -very few things can do this

preview in explorer, using other media players, using windows media centre.

Lot's of reason. especially something like vista codec pack which doesn't install crap like other codec packs.
