In terms of gaming, the first one is better due to two graphics cards. The second is more future proof as it uses the 1155 socket. If the pc is going to be used solely for gaming, then the first one is better.

By 1155 socket, do you mean the Motherboard? I could upgrade it to Asus Sabertooth 990FX, would that make a difference? The extra cost isn't much.

What are you planning to do with this computer? Gaming? video encoding? software development?

If you really want a gaming machine, get the 2500k and either a P67 or a Z68 motherboard. And I would get the 560ti over the 550 sli anyday. Personally I always advise people to get the best single graphics card they can afford.

I'm planning on gaming with this set up. Would the difference between the two set ups be huge? The SLI setup is about 100 pounds cheaper than the set up with the single 560. I want to be able to upgrade this machine once parts get outdated without having to replace too much, like the motherboard and such.

There is no point in going AMD. Quite frankly, they are crap. There is no room to upgrade as Bulldozer is complete ****.

Go with a 2500K and a P67/Z68 board. You can then upgrade the processor to Ivy Bridge if you still want more power.

And if you can push the budget, get an ATI 6950.

I'm using a website to build the PC and the only motherboard available is Intel H67 Chipset Motherboard with the 2500k option. Would i see a big difference in performance from these two setups though. I don't mind upgrading next year.

If you can afford it, get the 2500k with the a Z68 mother board, I have the Asrock extreme 4 gen3 motherboard myself and it's a really good motherboard. If you get that setup you won't need to upgrade next year, unless you want to get the next generation of graphics cards.

I would stick with the 560ti for the moment. It's a good card and will play everything pretty well. Both AMD and Nvidia will be releasing their next wave of video cards early next year, and that's when I would upgrade.

I would say neither, build it yourself. do you want ability to sli in future or will you simply relace old graphics card with a new one?

i2500k £168
gigabyte z68ap-d3 £85
kingston hyperx genesis grey 8gb pc3-12800 1600mhz £40
xfx pro core £59
gelid tranquilo £26
msi 560ti twin frozer £174
seagate barracuda £85 I'd prefer samsung but the seagate is cheaper
coolermaster 912 £52
pioneer dvdrw retail £19
win7 64bit hp oem £80 do you need this? if you don't then you could get a 64gb ssd instead, get a better case/mb/psu/etc

£800 inc delivery

If i were to choose the cheaper option with the SLI 550 and the AMD II 1100 BE, would i still get a good gaming rig? Also would i still be able to update the Cpu or Graphic card later on?

I would go for the second rig with i5 2500 and the the 560ti gpu.

Have you thought about self build?

sorry I wasted 'your' time ;)

rjc don't waste your 'breath' about self build as he's already had a few people suggest going for a self build be he's ignored them.

I wouldn't buy either.
Either start with Fowler002's selections and others will suggest improvments.

Or I'd start with something like this and then take suggestions to change components to suit your needs.

I'm not ignoring anyone, if i did i apologise. I just type half a reply then do something else then finish, by that time someone has already replied as well. I don't have any experience at all really with building a computer. I used *Don't link to competitors!* because it seems like the best option to buy a custom ready built system with decent specs at a reasonable price.

if the plan is for future sli in that the triple slot of the asus wil restrict airflow when you add the 2nd card in the future. the msi 570 for £260 would be a better choice, or even the gainward or gigabyte but those are £280(will take total over £850)

sorry have to disagree with you on the decent specs part going by your choices ;)

I'm sure stulid or someone else will link you tube videos about building your own pc, its not too difficult once you get started(maybe daunting thinking about it but easire in reality).

I am willing to spend up to a maximum of 900 pounds, i don't mind paying extra if it means i get a better system. If i'm spending hundreds an extra 50 or so won't hurt. BTW thanks for all your help so far, much appreciated. So with a budget of 900, which part could be upgraded further to boost performance the most?

Cheers

Don't link to competitor web sites, you'll get busted.
