I dont have HDMI on my LCD - it was an early one.

I have scart, s-video or component on my tv..

Which is best ?

If I use S-video does that do Sounds as well ?

I don’t think sky+ boxes have HDMI out. S-Video doesn’t carry sound, so scart would be the best way...

MAke sure you use the RGB scart port on the TV

Thanks.

I have a full scart and a half scart connection on the tv. Im assuming the full scart is the one i want. Im using it, it looks ok but I really would like a better picture.

Can you get hdmi to component converters ? What would i do about the sound ?

forget about conversion... for sky+ scart is really the best you can do. Make sure you have a decent scart cable and turn on RGB video option in the sky menu. It may be set to PAL at the moment.

As has been said RGB scart is the best you can do. At the end of the day the signal you are getting through your satelite is only an SD picture so no matter how you connect it up it will still be limited quality.

I have decided after some more research to go for a scart to component converter. Its basically a box that upscales the scart picture to component quality. Not cheap but worth the money.

Your TV has built in scalers which do that anyway, so unless the box has better scalers than the TV, its pointless. Scart RGB is still the best way to output Sky+, or HDMI for SkyHD.

The biggest problem with external scalers, is if the TV is a slightly non standard resolution. For example a 1366x768 LCD panel. The Scart output is 720x576, then it could be scaled to 1280x720, and then the TV still has to scale it to 1366x768 to display on the panel.

For a scaler to outperform the TV, it needs to be able to output at the TV's native resolution, and have a better scaling algorithm than the TV's internal scaler.

RGB SCART is the best option by far as already mentioned. Just make sure that you use TV SCART socket on the Sky+ box and you set the output to RGB in the picture settings on the box. As for SCART to Component upscalers/converters, been there, done that and the scaler built in to my old TV did a far better job so be prepared to possibly see no real improvement.

Spend the extra money on a decent scart cable rather than a convertor... That said you should be able to pick up a very decent scart cable for £10 or so.

As said already, the best option is to spend £10-15 on a decent quality RGB SCART cable. The chances are a SCART to component converter will not improve the image and may in fact reduce the quality.
