Which console best for single player gaming

PS2 because there are only a handful of games that are actually designed from the ground up for online play.

Out of the single player game for this gens.. I'd say the PS3. I've owned a 360 btw and played all the best games for it, no bias opinions here.

The best single player PS3 games:
Metal Gear Solid 4
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Valkyria Chronicles

Other good single player PS3 games:
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
Assassin's Creed
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Killzone 2
Resistance 1 & 2

You shouldn't include multi platform games.

I've got a ps3 and a 360 and I think the ps3 is better for single player games.
Some quality first party games on it - uncharted, ratchett and clank, killzone 2.
New ratchett and clank out later this year, plus infamous and a few others.
I also prefer multi platform games on the ps3.
The only games I get for the 360 are it's exclusives or ones i'm gonna play online as I have more friends on live.
Whichever you get make sure to check out dead space.A superb game.

Well, they both have a strong line up of exclusives - though really the body of both their game lineups are multiplatform. I don't think you'd care one way or the other once you're actually gaming, so you might as well save a few pennies and get the 360.

Both have some great titles, though I'd say the 360 still edges the ps3 + the controller + price, allowing you to buy more titles.

I have all 3 of the current consoles, and at the moment I'd say the 360. The PS3 has blu-ray so if you're into media, I'd say consider it, BUT the reason I'm recommending the 360 is if you're not going online you don't need most of the accessories. You can get a 60GB Xbox 360, and a charger with 2 battery packs for about £190. This leaves you with £60+ (over what you'd spend on a PS3) for some good second hand games, as you can find most of them for a tenner this will probably be a little better for you.

Some of the PS3 exclusives look a bit prettier (as they come on much larger discs which allows better textures etc) but a lot of multi-format titles came out better on the 360, especially earlier in it's lifespan which also helps swing the vote.

That said theres some good exclusives on either machine, more of the 360 'exclusives' are on the PC, but not all of them, so I'd say take a look at metacritic top 100 rated games for both, and see which list you prefer :)
