Which cooler?

I have mine around 50%, they can be very loud if you set them to max. I've got the side of my case off at the moment and I can barely hear them.
 
I went for the Freezer 13, wasnt impressed at all, on a 955 quad online gaming was about 65 degrees, but I could not overclock due to if I did the cpu temperature exceeded 95 degrees in games switching the pc off, have since changed the Freezer 13, now im getting online gaming temps of a steady 43 degrees when overclocked too.

What cooler did you change to?

Was their a possibility of a fault with your Freezer 13 as 95+ degrees to 43 degrees is a hell a lot of a difference
 
Yeah 95C sounds like it could be an issue with the heatsink being mounted - although that's not to say the product isn't to blame, I had similar issues with my Alpine 11 Pro
 
I would recommend whatever you like the look of by Thermalright. Value for money has to be a second hand TRUE if you can find a bracket for it.

In a similar vein I wouldn't go near thermaltake.

Entirely opinion, but based mostly on how well made everything I've seen by thermalright has been.

edit: Can you bodge a mounting for the current heatsink? I've had success using waterblocks with inappropriate boards by just bolting them on with m3 screws (at an angle) and silicon washers, so the same approach is probably valid with heatsinks.

No it wasnt due to poor fitting of the cooler, i'm an electronics engineer ;-) hehe and I dont know what could have been faulty, the fan worked fine etc, but I went for the Zelman CNPS10X Extreme, its AWESOME, I have also given it a review on the product page but my review hasnt been processed yet, but mat be a usefull read to you, The Akasa CCX4002HP is also supposed to be a good cooler, but cant advise on that one as I havent tried it

I have the Akasa Venom and I am seeing temps of max 70C at 4.6ghz which requires 1.35v. Considering the stock cooler got to 65C at stock speed an extra 5C for 1.3ghz more performance is not a bad trade off.
 
I suppose its all down to your budget and what you want to get out of your cooler, but the Zalman cnps10x Extreme is a BIG cooler, it comes with a syringe of more than enough paste, and the paste is totally fine ;-) just make sure you fit it as it describes in the instructions regarding paste, the cooler also comes with a remote fan speed controller which you can have on the outside of your case, saves taking the side off if you want to adjust it, it has 3 speed settings and a manual control, the fan does get a bit noisy on the highest speed setting but to be honest I cant really see when you would use the higher settings, im running my chip overclocked, online gaming, and am seeing steady 45 degrees on the lowest fan speed setting !

but if you dont go for this one then maybe try the Akasa CCX

note, when removing your old cooler try to make sure you remove the old paste fully if you can, I used Isopropyl on a clean cloth and it still took some time for it to wipe totally clean, even the cpu surface itself can become tarnished, and the cleaner the surface the better the heat dissipation

H70 here, and the temps are fantastic. However, mine is a rattler, so back it goes. Was going to replace it with another, but the more I read, the more disallusioned I'm getting.
 
Decision time. Narrowed it down to either the Gelid Tranquillo or the Akasa Venom NaithWraith has recommended.

The Tranquillo is cheaper and has the advantage of being almost silent. It is my preferred option.

What do you lot think? I'm keen to avoid something that blocks all the ram sockets on my chosen board (Probably the MSI P67-GD65).
 
I went for the Tranquillo for my Sandybridge setup. For it's price it seems to do a good job going of the reviews. From what I've seen in images, it doesn't seem to block any DIMM slots.
 
Well my venom hasn't really impressed me tbh.. Running prime at 4.5ghz 1.32v with the fan speed on max gets me 72 degrees on the hottest core. I was hoping for much lower. I have an Antec 902 with a top fan blowing cool air in and two fans on the front so airflow isn't a problem.
It may be that rubbish Akasa thermal paste supplied as I forgot to add some my basket.
