Well, I will be getting a cpu, either an opteron 144-146 or a amd x2 3800+

I will be overclocking quite a lot. So which cooler for them should i get. It needs to be quiet and has got to be a good cooler

thanks

What's your budget? The best value cooler out there IMO is the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. For a bit more you can get the Thermaltake Big Typhoon, and a little more still, the Scythe Ninja. Thermaltake also make the fantastic Si-120, to which you can fit whichever fan you like. :)

will the thermaltake give me a lot better cooling and would it increase my overclock of an 3800+ x2? also, when overclocking. which fan would stay quiet?

from what i have read and feedback from forum it seems like one of the best for the money,it shifts plenty of air and is reasonably priced.I am upgrading on a tight budget and this is the one i am going to use with an overclocked 3700 san diego.

I'd definately reccomend the XP-120 with a decent fan. I have it myself and it's the best air cooler i've had and i've owned a few :) Keeps my 3700 @ 2.75ghz down to 32 idle and never seen it go above 43-44 load :)

Not sure the typhoon would give you a better overclock than the freezer pro but if you believe the manufacturers info it flows about 14 cfm more than the freezer pro which should certainly help.

In the descriptions for the akasa fan thats rated at 45 cfm and 18db wheras the typhoon is 54cfm @ 16db so that should be the quietest. The cpu cooler does not get any louder the more you overclock.

Take manufacturers' fan ratings with a pinch of salt. There are some (SilenX and Thermaltake) who exaggerate their airflow figures somewhat by testing in different conditions to most other manufacturers.:)

would the xp-120 or si-120 give me a lot better cooling than the big typhoon, or is there not much point in getting them as the extra money isnt worth it

The Thermaltake Typhoon beats everything in tests, even the Thermalrights. If you are considering buying it first check that it will fit on your motherboard (and in case) as it's massive.

I don't regret buying mine at all and have got some good temps even with overclocking.
