Hi, i'm looking to update the cpu+motherboard and spend no more than £200, amd or ati doesn't really matter to me as far as it's the best value for money, asking advice here as last time i took the wrong decision (or maybe not for the budget) as you can see from my system:

-Intel Pentium Dual Core E6600 Socket 775 3.06GHz 1066FSB 2MB Cache
-Gigabyte GA-G41MT-S2P G41 Socket 775 DDR3
-Crucial 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz/PC3-10600 Memory Kit CL9 1.5V
-Seagate 500GB 3.5" Barracuda SATA-III 6Gb/s Hard Drive - 7200RPM
-Powercool Modular 450W PSU 80+ Dual 12V V2.2
-PNY XLR8 GeForce GTX 550 Ti OC

Possibly something that allow OC, can run on the old PSU and maybe the possibility to add a 2nd GPU in the near future, and the system it's for gaming and will update the rest slowly (4 months old :-( )
I mostly play Starcraft 2 and Battlefield 3 if that matters.

Thanks

I strongly suspect most people are going to recommend you find a way to add £50 to your budget and get a 2500K... And I think I am too. I just don't feel right about recommending anything else anymore, AMD are so far behind Intel at the mo :(

i5 2500K: £155

MSI Z68A-G43-G3 or Gigabyte Z68AP-D3: £85 (Ivy Bridge ready but do not do SLI)

Total £240, but so worth it...

(And yes you can run a 2500K on a 450W PSU, I am doing so quite happily, and it has about 100W headroom to spare even if I can ever load everything to the top simultaneously. Just heading that one off before the 600+ crowd jump in :p )

Thanks for the reply, i know amd it's behind i've seen the FX4 at £80 plus MB which would allow raid and the use of my 2 extra hdd at £120 total, good deal?

to moderators: i forgot about this post and opened another one could you close it? thx

I should listen more when asking advice ;-) after going through a lot of changes here's my final build as per yesterday:

Corsair 500r white
Intel 2500k @4.4
Artic Cooling Freezer 13 pro
Gigabyte Z68 UD5
OCZ ZS 650w
MSI Twin Frozr 560ti
Crucial M4 65gb
Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz 2x4gb

It looks awesome, performs well and silent, you're right suggesting intel cpu...
