Which CPU road should I go down?

How many people actually upgrade the cpu after the first build?

I used to... back when Intel and AMD used the same motherboard socket :D

Since then Intel have gotten a bit too keen on changing sockets, to the point where I favoured AMD in my last build largely because they aren't cutting off my upgrade path for at least a couple of years ^^

If you want the best results on games and don't want stupidly high resolutions (above Hd) then, buy a cheaper CPU and buy a better GFX card.

Tom'shardware tested some lower spec processors and came to the conclusion that most games are still GPU limited, even by stuff such as a 5850. Obviously if you are going to Xfire some massive GPU's get a better, but if you are cost limited, then spend it wisely.

+1 GPU is most important for anything graphics processing until you get ridiculous
