Was thinking about a 4200+ X2 or a 3800+ X2 .. im basically looking for the best semi-value / good overclocker for gaming mainly... how are the opterons atm?.. thanks for advice

The Opteron 165s were selling for less than £100 not long ago, not bad for a decent board :)

Btw, I don't think there was a 64 2800+ for 939, are you sure that board isn't 754?

The best for overclocking / value would have to be an E6300 combo atm but I'm guessing you are trying to upgrade to a new chip rather than buy RAM/mobo/CPU.

You seem correct. I can't see any evidence of a 2800+ having ever existed on PGA939 after having had a quick session with Google.

ok thanks.. any more recommendations are good

btw to the ppl saying about 939/754 .. i should have explained it better :P.. iv bought a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (939) board and am looking for a cpu ofc ;p

so the opteron (dual cores) are pretty much exactly the same as the athlon series' ?.. *** are the differences between them if any?.. ill check myself ofc but ppl on here know a lot :P

Opterons are just rebaged Athlon64s, they tend to clock very well though so are probably cherry picked cores.

And they have 1MB L2 cache as standard, only the x2 4400 & x2 4800 did from the non-opteron range.

Yes. (But may not be vastly better, and it's a lot bigger)

ROFL!.. i hear that.. its HUGE..i didnt realise how big it was til i went in this morning to buy it... not sure its gona fit in my case but i think it might just about close ^^

Opty 165 or 170, or anything from the X2 range. These include the X2 3800+ and X2 4200+. They won't overclock as well though sadly, and don't have as much cache(?) :(

Are the opterons multiplier unlocked? The 180 looks good for the money but if i can get a 170 or 175 and clock (multiplier) not FSB, then thats better value by far.
