I want to have a "play" with the new i3/5 platform; I want to get "best bang for buck" and a good overclock. The PC will be used after the playing for flight sim, pics and general office tasks.

Which of the 2 suggestions below should I get and why?

System 1
Intel Core i3 530 2.93GHz (Clarkdale) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM £88.99

Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel + 3D Vantage (PVV34G1600LLKB) £82.76

Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2H Intel H55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £74.99

Total £246.74

System 2
Intel Core i5 750 2.66Ghz (Lynnfield) (Socket LGA1156) - OEM £139.99

Patriot Sector 5 Viper II 4GB (2x2GB) PC3-12800 1600MHz Dual Channel + 3D Mark Vantage (PVV34G1600LLKB) £82.76

Gigabyte GA-P55-US3L Intel P55 (Socket 1156) DDR3 Motherboard £80.99

Total £303.74

I have a Coolermaster TX3 to cool them and the 4850 as gfx.

Thanks

personally the I5 as its a pure quad core i would imagine it would play better in flight sims too over the I3

If you plan on getting a discrete graphics card at all, then get the i5 750.

The i3 seems to be a very good clocker - but it is still just a dual core. For a CPU heavy "game" like FSX (i'm assuming that's the flight sim you are talking about) the extra cpu power of the i5 750 will be utilised and it is also a good overclocker - 3.8-4GHz should not be a problem with a good air cooler.

Think of sys one as your current E8400, just newer fabrication process, newer tech. Will overclock like a beast with decent cooling, especially if u don't use the IGP, and use a dedicated gfx, look at the overclocking results on the forum of the I3. Its also multi threaded 2 cores 4 threads, so if the flight sim can make use of multi threading then

Now system 2 is still 45nm tech, not bad but will run abit hotter, it is a true qaud core (no multi threading on that cpu though, only on the more expensive one).

Either will overclock well, personally for me system 1 is better bang for buck, but thats only my opinion, others may say different
