I am currently building a computer mainly for photography. I will be running PhotoShop and lightroom mainly. Using Vista Home x64.

My questionis will the E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz or the Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz be the best CPU to go for. Which motherboard should I go with?

I do not plan to overclock.

Photoshop lightroom supports multicore processors along with the rest of the adobe suite so I would go for the Q6600

I think that Abit IP35-E would be ideal, overclocking is its only weak point but as hes not overclocking it would be perfect.

Hence why I suggested it :)

Although IIRC the 35E variant is a good clocker just limted by the more ellaborate cooling of the more expensive mobos.

Still a mighty fine solid stand point for any system though.

IP35

LGA 775
Intel® P35
FSB 1333
Dual DDR2 800
PCI-E X16
SATA 3G RAID
Gigabit LAN
IEEE1394
7.1 CH HD Audio
RoHS Compliancy

The IP35 offers raid and firewire over the E.

If you dont need them then they are the same mobo.

The 35e uses the same pwm rt8802a controller as the 35pro but uses a cooler running 4 phase configuration opposed to the pro which has a 6 phase setup.

It will still see a kentfield to 3.2ghz~ but it’s not nearly as good as the pro as far as overclocking is concerned.

Yeah I know.

The OP is running stock.

Grat mobo and cheap too.

Then again I couldn't get my Q6600 3.8ghz stable with the pro.

The Maximus creamed it though on the first attempt! :p
