hi im thinking of gettin a new cpu but dont know which to get, i currently have the core 2 duo e6600, is the
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz

worth the swap

depends what you use your comp for, gaming or video editing? e6600 oc to 3ghz and above should be enough today's games. quad is usefull for certain apps but 99% of games dont require it. if you go quad then you could try a newer chip, maybe even a reasonnably priced i7 920 if your budget allows (new ddr3, mobo). the q6600 is good cpu, i just wouldn't buy one today

rather than upgrading your cpu, you may want to add 2gb of ram and maybe a new video card (4870 or 260 maxcore or higher depending on budget and resolution u play at) - you will definely benefit in games with that more than a cpu upgrade

im getting another 2 gb of ram, i game at 1920x1200

good start, since you have nvidia board may want to consider a 260maxcore, seems like lots of people are really happy with it, or 280gtx - depending on your budget of course

ps probably get about £80 for your 88GTX on member market or more if you are lucky

You will get MUCH more peformance out of a new graphics card than a new CPU, especially at that resolution.

A good rule of thumb for gaming is to spend twice the CPU price on the graphics card.

Take for example these two:

E5200 + 4850 ~ £180

E8200 + 4670 ~ £180

No prizes for guessing which one's going to better for gaming... the same goes for any combination, unless you play at 640x480 ;)

People spend far too much on CPUs for gaming around here and too little on the graphics card.

I would see how you get on with the additional RAM before you buy anything else. I have a similar set up to yours and recently switched to 2x 2gb RAM and was very surprised by the much faster load times in COD 4 and I am sure the game plays smoother too. You may find the same.
