A tad of a odd thread but need your help guys on these 2 clocks, About £200 diff and both about 18-19" tall.

Thanks guys, I leaning towards the owl clock as its not as cluttered, but mum prefers the fox clock.. Plus the owl clock is roughly £200 lower.

Also guys what do you think about putting wood behind a plasterboard wall to strengthen it, as the clock will be quite heavy mainly due to the weights, plus the size of it too?

I like the one on the right.

I really need a cuckoo clock, we used to have one when I was a kid and I'd love one now.

Yeah I think thats why I like cuckoo clocks cos my gran had 1 when I was a kid

I love the idea that you can upgrade a cuckoo clock :D Get the one on the right, it looks boss.

They would need a strong wall:D

How much are the smaller clocks and where does one purchase a cuckoo clock?

Well I bought my current clock from ebay, for about £60, but it came directly from Germany where they are made. But I think Im going to order the owl clock from http://www.justcuckoos.co.uk/ I can only find the fox clock on ebay though, but it will be sent directly from Germany, if I do go for that 1.

I still haven't decided which clock, there's just too meny to choose from. This clock is nice but its a massive 23", so Ive sent the guy asking if it would be possible to have the same clock but in a 17-18". I dont know why I cant have it smaller as its comming directly from the Black Forrest in Germany.

Also I came across this vid today, that shows you how the clocks are made. Quite interesting.

am i the only person who thinks these are are all hideous?

Really:eek: I like the fact its all hand made and none of this machine made stuff you get now that take a split second to produce.

My little boy wants a cuckoo clock, although I'm not sure I do at £500.

You can get plastic cuckoo clocks that look like the real thing and are dirt cheap, these are made in china apparently

I have just received the clock and it looks stunning in the flesh. Here are some pics

Now I just need to get it up on the wall.

That was quick for a made to order, hand built cuckoo clock. Them Germans work well fast :D

It must have been already made Im guessing, as it should have taken 2-3weeks. I only ordered it last thursday.

I like that. :) Can you switch off the music/chimes?

Yes it has a night shut off lever on the side to silence it. But some clocks silence themselves between 8pm - 9am, but not sure if mine has a automatic position setting on the lever or not.

Here is what my clock does on the hr

and on the half-hr it just cuckoos once.

I have to wait till Sunday for my mate to put it up, as I want it on a plasterboard wall. I'll post some more pics when its up and going, might even post a vid too.

i was scrolling down and i was thinking, am i the only one that thinks they are all awful?

:D

Each to their own I guess.. I might be old fashioned and Im only in my 30s:p but I think cuckoo clocks are the best looking clocks out there. A cuckoo clock is more of a ornament then a clock if you think about it?

I have an identical one in my dining room, it's over 60yrs old and belonged to my Granddad...needs a little work though as it won't run for more than 10 hours at a time.

Ah cool, apparently, you will be hard to find someone to service cuckoo clocks as there too time consuming todo and if you manage to find someone, they will prob just replace the movement as its quicker then oiling up the current one.

But saying that,, it doesn't look very hard todo yourself

I read somewhere on the net, that without servicing a cuckoo clock, the movement will last at least 30yrs, but its recommended to have it serviced every 6-8yrs, then it will last longer, how much longer who knows.

Cheers for the link Phil.
I may well have a go at this myself.
Want to keep the clock as original as possible and have been trying to find out who made it as we are unable to trace this as both grandparents have sadly passed away.
Would appreciate it if you have any info you could pass on to me.
Cheers.

No Problem,, your clock might have a name written on it somewhere, sides, back or inside? When I get my small clock down to pack it away, I will see if it has a name anywhere, as I havent a clue who made it. I really hope Ive still got the paper work for the clock as Im guessing it will add more value to the clock.

The person who made my new clock Adolf Herr has signed his sig on the back of the clock and it has "A Herr" printed on the clockface aswell. So it could be worth a lot of money in say 20-30yrs time when Adolf Herr has passed on

I still haven't got the new clock on the wall yet as my mate is going to secure some ply wood on the plasterboard wall with the same measurements of the back of the clock and then the clock will hang from the ply wood, so hopefully you should be able to swing from the clock without it falling to its death:eek:

Ive put my old clock to rest,, cleaned and packed it away, but cant find any paperwork at all for it:mad: but I manage to get the feedback from ebay, bought it from Germany May 2005. So Im going to stick that on the box.
