Which DAC & Amp for Bookshelf speakers (+ spec me a small sub) ?

Thank you, still yet to decide on the sub, but appreciated :) Defo hit me up if you see any around Brum plz!

Yes, I have 3x Monolith THX 15s V2s in Birmingham. You will NOT find better bass output, low THD and infrasonic bass for the money. They're absolutely phenomenal.
You'd have to pay close to £7.5k with Arendal or other competitor brands for similar performance. I'm letting them go for a lot lower than that of course, although the caveat is I'd prefer for someone to take all 3 (although I have a buyer for 2 of them if only a single is needed).

Reason I'm selling is to upgrade to Perlisten D215S. If you're keen, let me know and I'll list them.

Also have some speakers for sale too which I could make a nice deal on (Arendal 1723 8'' Woofer Monitors & Heights)

Guy on here is selling some monoprice subs birmingham. They're huge

They're a bit big but on their side, they're fine. There is also simple physics. For big, deep sound with extension and accuracy, you need a big box. There is no way around it. Either make it deep, or make it tall. Tall subs are normally an issue for projector screens.

If you want bass which call fill a moderately sized room, shake objects and provide in-room pressurisation - you need big subs. If you're aim is not to listen at reference and have a smooth FR from 12hz to 100hz - then sure.. can try to compromise.

I've owned BK subs in the past when I first started this hobby. Arendal, Monoprice and essentially most subs with Dan Roemer's design input seem to put them to dust.

Not small but you wouldn't need to upgrade again

Thank you both, sorry for the delay in reply as I was banned for a week.

So I've ordered my Wiim Amp :)

re: the sub, thank you for the suggestions. As size appears to be the way with subs, and the suggestions are quite large, I think I'm going to test it using my existing large Monitor Audio Subwoofer to see if I can cope with that much floor space being taken up, as I don't see the need to buy another large sub if I already have one, was just hoping to get similar from smaller but that appears understandably doubtful :)

Could I ask Q's around cables please?

Should I feed it from my motherboards Optical S/PDIF, or the HDMI from my gfx card (or mobo?)? (I know we spoke on this earlier, but I'm still confused lol)

Any recommendations on RCA connection wires? Previously I've just hardwired my speakers using 2 core speaker wire, but for the PC I'd like the plug in/out convenience :)

I already have 1 spare optical out cable, and I may have a spare subwoofer cable, from my HTPC set-up. However, I think I would like to buy shorter lengths of both for my desktop, just for cable management really.

Thank you all :)

I've got one of these that I'm very happy with, it looks like its not as powerfull as the Wiim amp, but its a fair bit cheaper, no headphone socket either but I don't need one.

Yeah that high pass makes it ideal for a stereo 2.1 system, cut those <80hz frequencies away from the speaker amplifier onto the sub, freeing up power/lower impedence load lower frequency, plus then able to apply peq. Will need measuring equipment but does something most hifi setups don't. I certainly don't have that flexibility in my 2.1 system. It's high passed and subwoofer is EQ however speakers aren't eq'd

Just for playing spotify its half the price of a sonos amp from 2 apeakers i have in ceiling

And it doesn't have the same crappy 65,000 track limit either.

Ceiling speakers is not best for sound quality and stereo imaging though. Ok for just background music, or if they're in the right spot for Atmos, Atmos movies

Plus e arc input so use it from your TV.

I have 2 in kitchen, 2 in cinema and 2 in outbuilding that i just want to stream from my hpone or spotify to really. The cinema has proper speakers as well for sound this is just for easy music. With sonos it would be 1800
