After PerfectDisk running a full defrag last night it gets my vote.
I ran a O&O Full/Access defrag a couple of nights ago, it made the start and end of my drive very clean, but in the middle was still horribly messy.
So today after my full PerfectDisk defrag had finished all the free space was at the end of the drive and the whole beginning of the drive was extremely neat.
Unfortunately my drive is still 27% fragmented, but that's only because I have a 31GB file that insists on being fragmented!!
So, for now, PerfectDisk gets my vote (mainly because it makes my drive look neat )... haven't had a chance to test performance yet.
long time diskeeper user, currently test out o&o 10, doesnt seem to defrag as well as DK as if i start another complete/name defrag, it will reprocess the entire drive again.
sysinternals contig (command line defrag tool) with powerdefragmentergui as the front end. 2 standalone files that don't need installing. does the job.
Been having some problems with O&O so gave PerfectDisk a try.
I think i am going to have to change my vote to PerfectDisk, love how i can defrag Single files.
I have a few video files that always seem to play out of sync but I couldn't figure out why - Ran PerfectDisk on them and they are no longer out of sync
PerfectDisk: 30 mins to Defrag a disk that's O&O has been struggling with all night Gets my vote
Also since uninstalling O&O, my computer hasn't locked up once, which it has been doing frequently for about a week
I've used them all ^ on XP and Vista and Much prefer Auslogics Disk Defrag - it has no running services in the BG when it's not active unlike all the others and it defrags as good as O&O/Diskeeper10/11/PerfectDisk without the need to have a multitude of Defrag "methods" .....
It is also free and small in size and very good on system resources - its interface is also quite different and pleasng to the others.
This site gives a good insight into the world of windows defragmenters.
I personally use UltimateDefrag. It allows you to choose which files go where, and lets you archive rarely used files at the back of the drive. Its ideal for advanced users, though it can look a bit daunting to n00bs who are bowled over by bloat and bells and whistles and talk of stealth technology (Hello Diskeeper, O&O and PerfectDisk!).
I personally quite like PerfectDisk although its getting more bloated all the time. Vopt is a nice, compact program that does it job well. But ultimately, according to the guy from the above link, we may as well all use JkDefrag (freeware!).
