thanks a lot for all the replys guys didnt realise u woudl all get so passionate and defend ur gfx cards honour
i game at 1920x1080
so with the black edition the software for voltage tweaks etc will this improve the performance only very minimally? and is it easy to config and not blow the damm thing up
and regards to crossfiring and sli this was more for a future thing not to do straight away.... so what i gather sli runs smoother and with less hiccups than cf?
1) if he's looking at dual 5970's he'll have at least a 1000w PSU which will take 3x 470's fine, and if he's looking at dual 5970's he most likely has an Intel build which almost all have SLI support
A pair of GTX470's don't even close to equaling a pair of HD5870.
Somtimes they offer more performance, sure.
Some contradictions going on here
Make your mind up Jigger, either they are faster or they're not, what's it to be?
ok,
1) if he's looking at dual 5970's he'll have at least a 1000w PSU which will take 3x 470's fine, and if he's looking at dual 5970's he most likely has an Intel build which almost all have SLI support
2) how does using 3x GPU's from a company known to have less driver issues have more driver issues than 4x GPU's from a company known to have driver issues especially with crossfire,
3) £245x3 = £735, £423x2 = £846
4) GTX 400's scale considerably better than 5xxx's(as in 60% vs 90-95%), dual 470's are equal to dual 5870's
that's why we're looking at 3x 470's
edit: nvm, thought he was talking about dual 5970's, argument still somewhat sticks for dual 470's though as they only cost a bit more than those two and perform better
Depending on the default Vcore the 470 could actually draw similar power to EACH 5970.
So even 2x 470 is going to need a beefier power supply than 1x5970. Its going to need a board with at least a decent spacing between the cards and very careful thought to case airflow.
3x470s are going to have to be next to each other. That would make me uncomfortable thats for sure.
