Hello,

I need some more storage to record to.

I have a SSD as boot drive which I don't want to record to, and my raid 0 SSD's which I also do not want to record to.

Doesn't need to be the fastest, just reliable and cheap. Would a WD Blue do the job or should I buy a Red or a Black?

I get pretty confused with the Colours lol.

Hey there, infernox.

Basically you should be fine with a WD Blue drive for the intended purpose. I really hope that I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting from reddit, but I wanted to give a different point of view, one that comes from users who have already tried what you want to do: https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/2p62ic/shadowplay_with_a_1tb_western_digital_green_hdd/

As for getting confused by the different colours, simply put:

WD Blue - general usage and/or secondary storage drives (7200RPM models and 5400RPM models) 2-year limited warranty

WD Black - high performance model, mostly used for video/image editing, gaming and any kind of demanding software. 5-year limited warranty

WD Red - drives for RAID/NAS setups. Basically they're the preferred options when it comes to RAID configurations and NAS enclosures. 3-year limited warranty

WD Purple - drives designed to be used for surveillance storage purposes. 3-year limited warranty

When stating the drives' purpose and what they are used for, I mean that each drive has specific features, firmware tweaks, or additions, which make it better suitable for the intended purpose.

Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any questions.
