Which drums?

Hey, I've got a couple of the guitar hero games but the only 'instrument' I have is the guitar. I'm looking at buying a set of drums but there is quite a few out there to choose from and none of them are cheap.

I remember reading that the official GH drums were constantly developing faults, is this still the case? I found them new for around £80. There is also the logitech ones at nearly double the cost and the ion drum rocker (don't think i've seen any others).. do you think they are worth it or should I get just get the official ones?

I got the rockband drums for £18 ages ago which can be used on guitar hero but can't comment on any of the others :(

I have spent an extra £6 to get some silencer pads put on them tho but they are still going strong :D

Only thing is they have 4 pads I guess but the GH ones have 5 (on GH:WT the game automatically puts the fretboard to 4 instead of 5)

I personally prefer the GH set as it feels like I'm actually playing drums AND hitting cymbals.

The issue I have with rockband, and its set is that they never have a predefined pad used the same in every song. For example I could be hitting the yellow pad as a symbol and 2 seconds later hitting it as a drum, it doesn't make sense and to me it doesn't feel like I'm playing drums.

Guitar hero drums however have elevated cymbals and it actually feels like I'm hitting cymbals, it also makes more sense when playing the song and they don't switch the pads around.

I hope that was helpful, probably a tad confusing :p

Thanks for that, yes it is helpful. Have you had any problems with the drums becoming faulty?

Yes I have, they aren't as well built as the rockband drumkit.

When I got the drums (the release date of GHWT), the red pad was pretty unresponsive so they sent me a cable so I could tune the drums. That fixed the issue.

I've been playing drums a lot the past month (and I've moved onto expert level). The past week the drums have started switching themselves off - the only reason I can think they are doing this is that the batteries are getting dislodged and disconnecting the kit (as I keep replacing the batteries so they aren't flat).

TBH it doesn't bother me in the slightest - I've owned both kits for a good year or two now and I much prefer the guitar hero kit. Red octane provide excellent support and send replacement parts literally within about 3 working days!

Bare in mind my kit is a release day kit, they might have fixed a lot of these problems with the ones they produce now :)

For cheapness - RB kit (if there still available that cheap)

The constant switching of sounds from the various pads might seem confusing but is technically correct (song dependant of course) :)

Not used the GH set but I'm already looking at the ION's

Get the Ion's

I got some a couple of months ago and have not looked back - 3 cymbals, 4 pads and I am already looking at putting a proper kicker on them.

They look great but cannot be packed away to fit behind the sofa like some (you can swing the arms in).

The best thing is that you can arrange every pad and cymbal to the position and angle you want - so I have set it up so I sit between the snare with the hi-hat above it to the left, the tom tom's cover round to my right with a ride and a crash cymbal over the top.

Works perfectly with GH:5 and rock band 1/2 now, and I think they have patched GH:WT.

The two pads / cymbal confusion seems funny the first time you play a song, but you are soon fall into the right pattern once you repeat a song
