right... im going to risk it... im going to blindly spend my money :p

which dual core is most value for money...

im into gaming and i do want to overclock... on air.

my spec is below

Probably the Opteron 175. It seems to have a similarly good o/c to the other Opterons and it's a solid performer already.

Pricy beggar mind.

This would be helpful if any of the Opty's ( dual core) where readily available!!!

The 4400 performs/overclocks the same as the 175 so go for either. The best one is the 165 as it's cheaper but overclocks much the same, they're generally out of stock though.

The only other option is the 3800 with the 2 x 512KB cache. Other than that you're just paying for guaranteed speeds.

Don't be a mug, dual core is still in hardware alpha testing, give it a year at least (probably two) then you will be silly *not* to have it.

Don't you understand that you have perfect hardware, that will work well for years, this of course poses a problem for the manufacturers who would like nothing more that to sell you a new CPU every week if they could.

You must be bored? ;)

I tend to agree with B.W, if you're into gaming your the speed of your current CPU is more than enough. Even dual core optimised games like Fear show only small improvements. (though I think driver level improvements are looking quite good). I would say you only need to opt (no pun intended) for DC if you were updating an older system or you were using specific apps that have good DC improvements like CS2 or Mainconcept.

If you are into gaming you will see a much bigger improvement by changing your GPU.

If it's value for money, then go for a 165 dual core - if you can find one at a decent price. The 175 and the 4400+ are similar, with Opteron prices rising, I'd suggest the 4400+ with the 1MB cache.

But then again, your current system isn't too bad. :) I took the plunge in dual core from my old AthlonXP 2600+ which I've had for years.

cant find opterons anywhere...

i think ive missed that boat now.. everyone wants one.. they are now expensive and hard to find.

i can sell my processor.. so i thought why not, then i can try dual core... but i think i can probably only afford 3800dual core... but if it overclocks to around 2.5/2.6ghz then ill be more than happy...
