Which Dynamic DNS?

Got a connection that's on a Dynamic IP :(, so to get some stuff to work I'm going to have to setup Dynamic DNS. The Draytek router in use can do it all for me, but there's quite a few different providers to chose from.

Which Dynamic DNS provider is recommended?

Thanks. I've registered with No-IP and got myusername.no-ip.biz all setup and working. Told the router to update it every 60mins.

With the 30day thing, does that mean that you have to login to the website manually? Or does the router automatically updating it count?

One more thing... If I want to use a nicer subdomain pointing to it, is this the right thing in CPanel?

DW, that was right and the CNAME works.

Related question... Any idea if 123-reg will allow me to run a script from a linux box to update an IP on a .co.uk domain? Will likely change once or twice a month (BT Infinity dynamic IP). I know some other providers allow this but haven't noticed it being obvious with 123-reg.

edit: I could have course just find this out myself. I'm feeling very lazy sorry :p

I envy you right now. It's nice to see your so spoilt for choice when it comes to the selection of DNS Service Providers on offer. With the lousy Sky router that I currently own, its a fixed DNS provided by Sky.

I have never had to enter anything with no-ip Kia been with em 5 months now, not even logged into my account for a couple of months :-)

How often does your IP change?

Your free host X.no-ip.org, will expire
in 7 days due to account inactivity.

X was last updated on X. Free Dynamic DNS
hosts must be updated by logging into your account on our website and clicking
update, this must be done every 30 days. If you are using the Dynamic Update
Client and your IP address has not changed within the past 30 days, you must
manually update it to prevent them from being removed from our system.

For more information regarding this notice please visit: http://noip.co/H8c1bi

If you are still actively using X and do not wish to have
your free host removed from our DNS servers and database please click the link
below :

Tired of receiving this notification every 30 days? Upgrade to Enhanced DNS
today and you will receive 25 hosts, more hostname
choices, and you won't have to confirm your account until you renew next year!

I would say every 3-5 days or so with my old adsl connection which I guess was why :) i'll have to do it now I think as I haven't had one drop out with my new FTTC service

For those with routers that don't have a dynamic dns update feature some ddns services have an updater app instead, dyndns does anyway.

Updater app is a dirty way of doing it. Worth buying a router that will do it for you.

I use no-ip, the domain I use is *****.no-ip.org

Easy to remember

Pretty sure the router logging in to the site is enough, don't think you need to login to the website manually.

Hey people. Bumping this up as I wanted to access my SABnzbd server and couldn't. Checked my spam folder and there was one from Dyn saying I will now need to log in every month. EFFORT lol

So I don't mine paying the $10 but was wondering if there are better alternatives or if a really free one (like Dyn was) is out there? I use a Asus router to update it but I have a Microserver running lots of things that I like to get access to with a domain.
