Which? E0 or G0 stepping

I cannot afford to upgrade the motherboard, memory and cpu for i7 setup. I am looking at a long term solution on my current setup.

:D

the Q6600 is a great processor for the price and overclockability, however, it is getting a tad old and is based on the 65nm die and has 8mb cache. The Q9550 is a great processor aswell, and if you can get the E0 revision then you will have a great time overclocking, especially with a non-stock cooler or watercooling.

Personally, i have the Q6600 but the Q9550 is 45nm and 12mb cache and is more future proof'ed than the Q6600 :) Not to mention OCUK have a deal on the Q9550 for £169.98 for this week only: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-203-IN

if it were my brass i would be looking at a steady upgrade to i7

Steady, how? I'd like to go i7 (or most likely i5) from E8400 but still need new board, mem & cpu. Memory is very cheap now so that isn't a problem but the price of the cpu's and motherboards are still high.

I brought the q9550 from overclockers.
I am very pleased to say that it is a E0 stepping :D

I have no overclocking knowledge and managed to reach 3.6 ghz stable with ease. I hope to reach 3.8/4 hopefully.
