Hi there lads just been recently looking at external drives and basically am looking at around 1tb external hard drive and dont really want to spend more than £75

I have seen http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-323-WD which seems decent price etc just with the lack of reviews i am hesitant to buy, i have read elsewhere mixed reviews roughly 50% had no problems other 50% had constant burn outs etc

I have also read about hard drive containers etc where u can put in a standard harddrive and link it to the pc (correct me if i am wrong but dont no much about this) wondered if you would recommend this more but tbh just want to buy something i can plug in instantly

any advice would be appriciated thanks for your time
Ben

Burn outs? The drives barely even get warm as they're WD greens. I have a pair of them and i've had no issues so far, but i've only had them a month or so.

As they're for backups they've not really seen a lot of use except for the inital backup. The inital backup was around 800gb each though, taking around 7 to 8 hours to copy (at ~30mb/sec, limited by USB).

ye i got a new pc unstairs and im sure it has raid connections on the back with the comment about making my own would this be used in raid config as some of my pcs in the house dont have that or can it be used in usb connections also.

just 1 more thing basically i will be using the hard drive for storing games music videos etc to easily be able to move between my computers also i was just wondering if it would be possible to play games of the usb version when i got to friends houses etc or will this be to slow on the usb versions

Make sure to buy one with USB 2.0 & eSATA combo interface ... (As USB2 is very slow )

thanks for the replys lads

so was thinking maybe going for the
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-082-SA&tool=3
as ive read a lot of good things about the samsung f1's etc

and will probally use the
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-051-BT&groupid=701&catid=14&subcat=72
but will probally look into the cases further

Just 1 last question sorry to sound dumb, but i dont no a lot about this... would the hard drive i listed above be usable for both the combo usb 2.0 and the sata connection, does it come with both connections to be able to hook it up to the case or will i have to buy adapters for it to be used in both versions... because current pc i want to use the sata connection but the older ones i will need to use usb

thanks again lads really appriciated
