Hey, as ive just lost a lot of work from hard drive failer having the "its not going to happen to me" attitude i have now come to realise i need to do regular back ups.

My quesion is which is the best external hard drive? Got about £100 to play with, £150 at a push (if its a noticeable difference). Would be nice to have 1TB, and for it to be WiFI so i could view all the files on it from my work. (how does this work? just ftp, or?)

Thanks!

i have not seen any wifi hard drives.

but if i understand you correctly, do you want to have a drive that is available on your network so that you can log in from another location?

your talking about an external as a backup drive, then saying it would be nice to have access to it from work... it would be better just to leave the backup as a backup

if you want to access your home computer from work the easiest route is to use VPN software like teamviewer... its free and does a great job

as for the external drive, they are all pretty good

the other option you have is to go for a NAS drive which connects to your router so it is available to all pcs on your network

Had nothing but overheating problems with a WD MyBook external drive (look it up on google). Wouldn't have one again.

I solved it by sticking it on top of my HAF932! That 220mm fan sure keeps it cool, but hardly ideal! :p
