Ahoy hoy

I'm in need of a 1TB external hard drive to back up lots of pictures/music/video but i dont know which one to get.

I already have a WD 500Gb My Book Essential, and thought of getting the TB version of it, but i heard some bad stories about it which has put me off.

So any recommendations?

My flatmate had 2 WD mybooks. Both have died. Not mistreated as far as I know.

I've got a freecom drive and I can't recommend it enough, uses a samsung drive inside it and is dead quiet. However do not know if they do a 1TB model.

I be getting one these external storage drive Enclosures with removable drive tray and hot swap capability makes exchanging harddrives virtually hassle free!,,

I have done the same - although I have the Firewire version so I can boot from it on my Macbook.

I went for the 750GB Seagate (32mb cache) as it was in the This Week Special + free delivery. :)

I would have recommended the 1TB My Book as i have the 750GB My Book Home

What bad stories?

people have said that they have just failed on them, its erased data, data is unaccessible. Stuff like that. My MyBook 500Gb is pretty good! i have had it a year now, and when i go home from uni every week i just put it in my bag and im away. No problems what so ever.

That product which was linked seems like a good idea, but it work out really expensive, because the actual 1TB drives are expensive.

What do you guys think of the Seagate Freeagents?
