this drive will be used as portable storage, my father does a lot of video editing etc.

which do u think is the best route

First one, as you get a looong warranty on it. And tbh, pushbutton backups aren't all that great - I'd personally never use it.
 
thanks for the info, the only reason i asked is it was a few extra quid for a bigger hdd and all pre made together, but i see ya point on warrenty and thats good :)
 
That was my personal opinion though, and you ought to look at practicality - but that is what I would do :)
 
I recently picked up an external 250gig drive from purple shirt place pikaone version for 83 all in, ordered on the web for store pick up.
