I know this was 'researched' when the prices of hdds sky rocketed but didn't keep up with that thread and it expanded rapidly.
I seem to recall that Seagate external drives can be removed from their case and used as an internal drive, WD 2.5" external drives cannot as the USB connection is part of the drive board.
Specifically interested in the WD 3TB USB 2.0 external drives.
