looking at getting a 50mm prime for my d80 and am just wondering which one to get out of the new Nikon 50mm f1.4 AF-S Lens or the Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM the sigma seems to be 310ish in some places and the nikon 260ish, not really had a proper look around for a good price, i have 3 sigma ex lens at the moment and i cant fault them so am leaning more towards the sigma ;)

I'm in the hunt for a 50mm and was going to get the new nikon AF-S one but not sure if it worth spending the extra for the sigma, my mate who is in the business says the Sigma is one cracking lens.

I've had the new nikon 50mm for a week, can't compare it to the sigma but I think it's an excellent lens. Sharp when wide open and nice and fast. Would recommend!

Do you have any sample shots wide open ;)

was it true that the early models had front focus issues

I find it hard to imagine how a 50mm can be better than the IQ of the nikon 50mm f1.8 to be honest.

Its fast, sharp and great to use. What more can you ask for, its also not that dear.

Love to see some samples though if you have any.

The Nikon 50mm 1.8 is fairly soft below f2.8, and certainly softer than the 1.4below f/4. CA is not great. The Brokeh on the 1.8 is very poor. Microcontrast at f/2.8 and less is poor.
