Which Flash?

Im starting to realise how much I used the flash on my 20D, and im missing not having one at all for my 1dmkII, so im going to have to purchase one. Looking around the Speedlite 580ex seems about the best, is it as simply as that or is there a better option available.

simply, nope, that's the best. Other options maybe nearly as good for less dosh ala the sigmas, but generally, the canon 580ex is the best option even over the metz's etc

Yep, the 580 is the one you need and if you get into multiple flash setups, you can control other 580's and the less powerful 430's too.
I have a 550 and don't see the need for the 580 but if I didn't have the 550, the 580 would be the one for me.
