Which G-Sync monitor to get?

After upgrading to a Nvidia 1080 card I've been looking into getting a new monitor as well, however it is a big jungle out there and I'm not so keen to spend more than £500 on one. I've looked around and kinda got myself hooked on the AOC G2460PG and the AOC AGON AG241QG. The first one is only 1920x1080 resolution while the Agon is 2560x1440.

At the moment I'm just aiming at a 24'' monitor due to space limitations on and around my desk.

Or is it any other screen you would rather suggest?

Thanks Gibbo, they are very similar in price but I did lean towards the Agon mainly due to the resolution. Would I actually notice any difference in the contrast ratio between the monitors? They have very similar specs otherwise of what I can understand

No as they all make the contrast ratio number up anyway as dynamic contrast ratio is impossible to measure, so some say 50,000:1, some say 500,000:1 yet the result is same! They are all 1000:1 static anyway on an IPS panel. :)

Ah ok. But the Agon is a TN panel not a IPS panel? Or have I confused things again now? :D For such a small difference in price the resolution will definately be the decider. Gonna be looking so much better than my 6,5 year old Illyama monitor :P :D

I know you mentioned 24inches is the limit for the space on your desk, but for a bit extra you could get the Agon AG271QG in a 27" in an IPS panel.. Response time is 4ms however

I'm going to put this out there that you should wait, G-Sync is a closed eco-system by NVidia whereas many TV's will soon have adaptive refresh rate technology and NVidia will very likely be including support for that (or they'll be left in the dust while AMD supports both adaptive sync and freesync). Now the funny thing about all this is that Freesync is based off of the adaptive sync standard and as far as I'm aware is compatible, whereas g-sync is not. So you might want to hold off on G-Sync.

I did get myself the AOC Agon 24'' monitor which arrived on Friday, and this far it is looking really great and a massive improvement to my old Illyama monitor. Just need to get used to the slightly wider monitor (my old one was a 22'' one) but I'm really looking forward to play Ghost Recon and watch my new purchased A Monster Calls bluray :)

Which 24" did you get, a 1080p or 1440p? I just bought the Dell s2417dg 23.8" 1440p and I play Ghost Recon also. I am curious what settings you use and FPS you're getting. I have a 1070 OC and at 1440p get about 55-70 at very high (mostly) - I know there's a lot of settings, I just went with what geforce experience optimized it to. My old 1680x1050 monitor got close to the same on ultra, maybe a tad faster. I find at 1440p everything looks so sharp.

I did get the AOC Agon AG241QG 24'' TN G-Sync 165Mhz Widescreen LED monitor. This far I haven't played much Ghost Recon as I've been on nightshift, but I think I did let the Geforce Experience optimize the game. I'm running on a 1080 card and 16gb memory. Of what I've played this far (maybe 30 mins) I must say that daaaamn the graphics are superb, really clear and sharp and just brilliant. Can't remember the FPS at the moment but I will check when I hopefully get some gaming in tomorrow after work :D

if using geforce experience, check DSR is disabled.
otherwise u render at higher resolution than 1440p which is a real drain on frame rate.
ideally you want to lower settings until you hit 165Hz for smoothest gameplay.

I used to use FRAPS, sometimes still do. Lately I use the MSI gaming app or MSI afterburner (I have an MSI card) and you can enable various stats on the OSD. While I am evaluating my new monitor I have my old one beside it and I run afterburner's real-time charts of all the performance stats on it while I'm playing (which is a bit distracting) but I can watch the card clock, temp, fps, etc on it also over time.

I see what ShakeNBake means, I am going to have to lower settings to get over 100 FPS, I am not even close to that, so I'm not seeing the full effect yet. I originally bought the 1070 thinking I could max out the AAAs mostly but I didn't predict I would buiy a 1440p. So I have some buyers remorse. I'm thinking SLI now but I don't know much about that yet. Mass Effect is also about 50-75 or so on max settings. I'm going to start lowering this.

Don't bother, support has gone to **** this last 6-9 months :(
Most admit there really not much need for an SLI setup these days with how fast the 1080ti are...
Apart from the power needed for 4K monitors but then all 4k monitors are still only 60hz so there not really that much use for highend gaming

/nods head
Since I already bought the 1070 I'm looking for an upgrade path. You saying I should try to sell my 1070 at a loss to get a 1080ti and that developers are going to drop SLI support? I think I could just buy another 1070 and I'd think 1070x2 is faster than 1080ti? I believe there are SLI profiles for the games I play now.

Besides changing hardware what do you think settings-wise will give me the best bang for the buck in FPS while still trying to preserve some quality? Turning off AA?

It's your money dude, do wtf you want to :)

(I came from 1080 SLi to 1080Ti and overall get a better game experience so kinda know some ****. Enjoy!!)
