After DNF being an utter let down and nothing now coming out till August at the earliest I'm looking to get something cheap off of the bay contenders are

Assassin's Creed 2 - played this when it was released didn't like it so sent it back, after all the praise it got along with that of Brotherhood I'm wondering if I should give it a second chance

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood - can I skip AC2 and go straight to this?

Mass Effect - never played it before

Mass Effect 2 - can I skip the first and go straight to this?

Thanks

Definitely try Mass Effect before #2. It's an excellent game, and you'll just feel like you're missing out on the story when you're playing through Mass Effect 2. You'll also get a great sense of achievement when you import your mass effect 1 character in to Mass Effect 2 (and assuming you fininsh ME2, then on in to Mass Effect 3).

Got both 360 and PS3 so format doesn't matter, just grabbed a copy of Mass Effect for less than £6

Okay so I got Mass Effect in the post today, got to the point where Nihilus gets shot but to be honest I haven't got a clue what I'm meant to be doing :o

Keep dying though which is kinda annoying :(

Hmm everyone praises Mass Effect but you have to realise at core the game is an RPG so moves at the pace of an RPG, dipping in to menus levelling up etc.

Mass Effect is not for everyone I have the game and whilst it is good I am certainly not hooked on it and do find it quite annoying at times eg. re-doing sections as I died over and over. I'm not a huge RPG fan but again as you did I picked up the game as everyone was praising it, I'm happy enough with it but I certainly would not call it amazing as I prefer "getting on with it" and so have the levelling up system and all other options that can be auto assigned turned on.

On the other hand I loved AC 1,2 and 2.5 and would play through these games again happily. My advice to you would be to borrow (I know it's too late as you purchased ME) the games you listed as the play-style within the games is diversely different.

Can I suggest if you have not played it picking up Batman AA (or even if you have, play through it again in readiness for the new one).

Mass Effect 1 & 2 definitely, Should be able to pick them both up for less than £25 now.

This. Two of the games of the generation. Get the GOTY editions so you've got all the DLC too.

edit: doh... lol, that'll teach me to post before reading to the end of the thread.

Anyone got any tips for a newcomer to Mass Effect then?

Luckily I also got AC2 in the post today as well and that is a lot easier to get into even if at this point I still dont get what all the fuss is about
