Hi all,

Looking to pick up a gaming mouse for use with my soon to be deliverd gaming laptop.

I don't want to spend too much and happy with a wired version.

Ideally I would like the ability to change the DPI via a button on the mouse.

I don't really want to spend more than about £40 - which one would you recommend ?

I actually have an older Logitech mouse, an MX510 in a metallic blue colour. It feels very comfortable but doesn't have all the buttons and DPI of the modern gaming mice

The razor death adder is an exceptional mouse. Gone through two of them now and would another, though I would be lieing if I sometimes didn't wish for extra buttons on it.

I've just got home with a G500, so far I'm loving it!

I sort of like the look of the RATs, but that's it, I had a quick play in the shop and thought they felt horrible.

Anker 8000dpi Mouse

Thanks for all the suggestions. I came across this new 8000dpi Anker mouse at a really good price. There aren't many reviews on it but the ones I found were very positive so I thought I would give it a try.

Although I have yet to try it with some games, first impressions are good. It is feature packed with changeable lights and sufficient programmable buttons.

It also comes with different weights in order to get the right feel for different people. It definitely needs these as it feels quite light, particularly compared to my Razer Mamba. The materials feel really nice although a little plasticky and the braided cable is a nice touch.

Overall, I am pleased with its look, feel and features but I need to install its software and try it out with some games before I can give a final verdict. Below, my son put together a quick unboxing and first look video:

For me the anchor mice would be awesome if they added a couple of extra buttons around the left click (like the G700) or extra buttons near the scroll wheel (like most of the steelseries warcraft mice) or more under the thumb (like the various MMO mice from logitech/razer).

I generally need 3 buttons on top of the existing 5 (so 8+) to be completely happy.

Currently using the G700. They can be found almost in price range and happily run wireless or wired.

I agree, it is not ideal for MMO games but should be OK for FPS games. I got is an alternative to the G400/500 which I was originally looking at

Indeed, for fps anything beyond left, right, middle and dpi adjustments is a bit surplus to requirements.

One of the best FPS ones I saw was one of the RAT mice. Had a dpi adjustment button on the side you held for aiming better and released for general twitchy mouse control.

Depends what you're playing of course. I've found the G700 a pretty decent "middle ground" mouse, my only complaint being their ability to take a life of decent use (on my 3rd, all happily replaced under RMA, it looks like they might have done a refresh too so hopefully this one lasts a bit longer. They have issues with the microswitch actuation plate getting bent out of shape).

I'm still popping heads with my 3 year old Saitek Cyborg V3 :). It was supposed to be a cheap temporary replacement for an old MS Sidewinder, but it grew on me and does what i want it to... I won't be buying a new mouse until this one dies :p.
