Which GPU for my future Intel build?

I value and welcome your opinion though, however I'm already stretching an extra £20 for the 290 tri-x (if it fits!)

You are very wise - there should always be a cutoff point, but sometimes it's hard not to look at the next rung up the ladder. I think the best thing is that you found you can stretch for a 290 tri x over a 280x. The former is noticeably more of a beast, though the 280x is still a good card. Good luck with the build and hope the 290 fits your case.

BTW I don't think the VPF is Seasonic OEM, so I'd opt for one of their TrueQuiet range or High-Current Gamer or a SuperFlower from OcUK

Delta Electronics made I think though, so still very decent PSU

I apologise for doing this as it sometimes infuriates me when people recommend cards well over budget. The 290 tri x is a very well received card, but the nvidia 780ti is a noticeable jump in performance again. At 250 i think it's the lowest it's ever been. If you have any elasticity in your budget and won't upgrade for some time, see what you can do to get the 780ti. Check out anandtech's gpu comparisons to see how it fares vs the 290 tri x and see if you think it's worth the extra. Again based on case dimensions, something I lack knowledge of.

Mulp

780TI is a good card; but lately the drivers have totally dropped; instead of being 5% faster than 290X it barely matches it now in newer games; 290 isn't that far behind; and can be oc to take care of that :)

He's stretched; and good to have a cut off at some point :D
