Which GPU

I keep going back and forth between these two cards.

Will be using with an LG 3440x1440 monitor. Not a heavy gamer but want a reasonable ability to play some games.

System is i7 4790k / Asus Z97-A / 16gb / EVGA G2 750 PSU

I suspect the 390 is better given the res etc but would like opinions.

R9 390 for me more VRAM and around the same price as the 970!

I think both of them will struggle at that res unless you turn down a few settings. That said, the 390 will cope better and £50 is a lot, 390 for me.

Since you consider the 970 at £280 spend £20 more and buy the 390X.
Or else the 390 is great choice, much better than the 970

Another vote for the 390!

I admit I have a small AMD bias but in that price range (of 380, 380X and 390) they offer the better value proposition, imo.

the 390 handles 1440p better than 970 period...you have ultra wide. if you were considering 970 at that price 390X for 20 more.....

but 229 with a free game.......970 isn't even in the running here
