its a acer al1916w im pretty new to this so i appologise in advance if i sound a bit dumb its something i want to learn about i have to start from somewhere just baffles me abit i built my pc from scratch as its pretty much plug and play but the technical side setting up iv no idea really lol :o

Ok, your maximum resolution is 1440x900 which means that these top end cards will be somewhat wasted for at least a 3-6 months until the next FEAR or Oblivion is released.

You're probably best off getting an X1800XT as that'll give you everything you need and be a lot cheaper than any of these other cards mentioned.

Having said that you are coming from a 7800gt which isn't too bad a card really at that resolution. You must have a fairly high standard of game play to find that significantly insufficient. The X1800XT will of course blow the 7800gt out of the water, but it's not THAT big a step up the rankings (until i reread your first post I guessed you were coming from a 6600gt or X1600). On reflection i'd suggest looking at the X1900XT that is on offer at the moment. For just over £200 there really is nothing better, andit WILL give you a very noticable boost over your 7800gt.

would agree with above poster

Going from a 7800GT myself to a X1900XT was a good jump and it can play everything i throw at it @ 1280x1024 with AA & AF max'd out.

Going over this (7950, X1950 etc) just seems bonkers to me - but it's your money!!!

personally go for the X1900XT

I would say if you really want to save your money then go for the X1800XT 256mb.

If you don't spending the little extra the X1900XT @£205 cannot be beaten.

i upgraded from a 7800gtx to a 7950 and before i changed my processor there was very little differences and not a noticable improvement in games (i was using an old smithfield pentium d 3.0) i'd stick with the 7800 for the time being or change to conroe (mb and processor for less than £300) and see a huge improvement with the 7800.

Sweet chocolate Christ, forget everything that has been said in this thread so far as soon as possible. There is absolutely no way any of the cards I listed would benefit you really, especially the 7950GX2.

You are probably best off keeping your 7800GTX and buying a better monitor in my opinion.

also what does a bfg phisics card do
It cripples your FPS and adds nothing much more than a couple of flying boxes, steer well clear of physics cards until the technology has matured, it's an incredible waste of money.

Agreed with above post, it would be a HUGE waste to upgrade from your card at the moment. Only do so if you're upgrading to a pretty high resolution monitor (1600x1200 + above).

Aye. Were I in his position, I would grab one of the nice 19" widescreen TFT's (1440x900) while they're cheap. I bought the Hyundai ImageQuest X90W and it's blown me away, a 7800GTX would have absolutely no problem pushing its native resolution either.

hi ok i seem to be in abit of a pikkle as my monitor is so poor what do i look for in a monitor to suit my 7800 gt, i would like to keep the widescreen style though also it might seem a daft question but can i use an ATI Radion graphics card or do i have to use nvidia with my DFI NF4 Lanparty SLI DR motherboard

I would suggest any of the 19" or 21" widescreen LCD monitors on this site, they're all very good except for the Video7 ones (I had one and it was horrible, tons of backlight bleed and bad viewing angles.)

As for the motherboard being nForce, you can use either ATI or Nvidia graphics cards with it without any problems whatsoever. :) The only thing you won't be able to do is use two ATI cards in Crossfire.

Yep any 19 or larger, the Hanns-G widescreen 19" is going for about £120 at the moment, it's an amazing deal for such a good monitor.

:edit: Oh I see, well you're monitor should be fine for that card...

What's actually the problem then?

Úlfhednar, his monitor already does 1440x900. Google the spec he posted.
Weird. When he said he was running in 1024x768 I assumed that he was using a smallish CRT or something.

Well in that case, since he can run 1440x900, I would suggest either keeping the 7800GTX or waiting to see how the X1950/7950 situation pans out.

ok so what do you reacon is better the ati 1950xtx or the geforce 7950 should i keep my monitor or should i buy a new one and what would you reccomend like how much resolution do i need iv just looked at my laptop screen and its max resolution goes way high to 2048 x 1536 just tried it on that but the scren is to small to fit it on lol
