Hi all,

My HD 7850 card has died and now I'm looking for a second hand graphics card for 1080p gaming within my £300 budget which is either the R9 390, R9 390X or GTX 980, which one will be better off in terms of performance and what brand should I go for that has best cooling and overclock?

980 is probably on balance the faster card at stock but the 390X has more memory. Arguably the memory is wasted at 1080p though.

Cant really go wrong at 1080p with any of those cards.

My 7950 died on me a week ago,my advice is if you can hold off buying do so,im doing the same ,not only will you get to see what's coming out but also card prices will drop.

I'm looking at going either 1070 or 980ti or seeing what amd have up there sleeve.

Best bet now is to wait about 3 weeks and see what's what then.

He does mention second hand. ;)

Could probably get a 980 for £200. Wait a few weeks and might actually get a 980Ti for £300(or near)
How much percentage increase between a 390 and 390X? As I can pickup a 390X for £15-20 more than the 390. However, I can pickup a 980 for £40-50 more than the 390X so which one should I go for?

Also, the 980Ti is probs too overkill for 1080p gaming but there is currently some second hand R9 Fury for less than £320, what's the performance between them?

Anyone?

The 390x is what you want for sure. (I would say that...)
Consistently outperforms the 980 (with current modern drivers), has twice the memory and is much stronger in DX12. AND is cheaper.

Simples.

Stock 390X consistently outperforms the stock 980? What about when both are overclocked?
